I'm a bit surprised to say it but...

KLK has a pretty solid dub. Even Ragyo has a good VA which is saying a lot coming from a hardcore Romi fanboy like myself.

Told ya... well.. no, I didn't, but I did share that opinion a while back in the thread anyway.

In many cases whichever is better is usually decided by the one you listen too first.

This is often the case. Once the voice and the character become one it's insanely hard for the other version to overcome that

That wasnt the case for me with The Devil is a Part-timer. I watched the first episode subbed, but then watched the second episode dubbed since I wad curious. Didnt change back afterwards.

Then again, there was quite a gap between the first and second episode for me.

In this case it was more or less me saying that the voice acting itself and localization effort to make the anime consistent with a western audience was solid -- In a lot of cases, you'll find bad voice acting in a dub, not always at the fault of the actor itself, sometimes it's the voice directing that lies at fault -- Sometimes, a really good script can also help it. Like J Michael Tatum's script for Stein's Gate.

Example could be Star Ocean Last Hope, which has incredibly awful voice acting from the likes of Laura Bailey, and it beckons the question as to what exactly went wrong -- Perhaps the voice director was twirling his thumbs, Bailey was phoning it in though she doesn't usually do that, or perhaps it was just an awful dubbing process altogether.

Not that you don't have a point as you're more than less correct.

There is also the case that a show is much easier to watch dubbed regardless of which you watched first. Comedy shows tend to be a good example of this.

Well yeah if a dub is **** awful you're obviously going to hate it regardless of which you heard first. Especially if you recognise the VA and can tell they aren't up to normal standard.

You're right. I think its a good example of localization.

When did the dub happen? During her FMA years?

It's a JRPG from 2009 so it's definitely post FMA.

For that one I let Ani do the official test, particularly with Ragyo since we both have a shared love for that VA. When she told me the VA was actually decent I just had to see for myself.

Yar, as I've stated before I was rather surprised with the KlK dub. For my money, Ragyo, Mako and Nonon were the casting choices that really impressed me. The former was the one I went into it considering I'd be more... critical on shall we say because Romi made Ragyo the queen we all know and love, but Laura Post so far has absolutely nailed the role for me. Surprises like that make me rather happy.

Thinking I might be starting Monster at some point in the near future after all these years. Going to go the manga route first even though I was told yesterday that the anime is a rather good adaption. I really just have to force myself to sit down and focus. X3

From what I've heard of the english dub of KLK it isn't bad.

But I'm just stubborn.

Heh, I'm kinda the same. I'm glad it's seemingly good so more people can watch KLK. I just can't possibly under any circumstance see myself watching it dubbed. Would just feel so terribly wrong.

There were some characters that got rather good dubes.. including Nonon which I can easily acknowledge

I just completely refuse to acknowledge it as anywere near as good as her original voice. One does not lose the "chainsmoker" part and say it's as good. Nope. Impossible. Can't happen. It's like dividing by zero and one just do not do that.

But like on Mako and Ragyo? Really good choices and especially Ragyo could've been completely ruined if the wrong person had been voicing her which didn't happen so lots of yay for that!

They still messed up on Eyebrow-chan imo, they should have gotten Lady Platt or someone similar in caliber. This actress just lacks the aura and vibe that Ryōka had.

For the life of me, I just got to about episode 16, and I still cannot sit through that damn incest scene in the pool.
