What do you guys think of this?

Although I've barely even seen the game, I got a Shadow of the Colossus vibe from that.

Do enlighten me, please. What are high standards? How to acquire them? You can't define it simply stating its opposite (or worse, the lack thereof).

High standards?
It's pretty much not ignoring the negatives of a work of fiction and looking at it from a wider and more distanced PoW.
Quality and enjoyment are not the same thing after all. Humans are quite capable of enjoing everything - from the biggest pieces of trash to the gretest works of art. They can also become obsessive.

That said, having standards - high or low - is a double edged sword.
Sometimes I think it would be better to have low standards, as that means one can enjoy more stuff.

I hear you. Though I meant to ask about "actual" standards, not high standards (am making way too many mishaps here lately), I can understand your thinking better now.

@ the vid I asked opinions about. Well, yeah, that's exactly the type of anime thar gets me confused lately. I don't know what to expect from it and how to rate it.

There's clearly much work gone into the animation (and in this it reminds me of that latest One Piece movie trailer Some Geth posted, even though this one is less colorful), and there does seem to be some "disturbing" stuff going on, letting me hope for a mind-**** philosophy. Yet there probably isn't really, at least by the standards of Evangelion and such. I mean, these weird giants and all the jumping around seems a bit shallow.

If only there were more slower, thoughtful-paced kinds of anime done nowadays...

Different standards for different types of show.
Is it a comedy or drama? Does the show try to create a specific atmosphere? Does it take itself seriously?
Is it forced? Cheap?

If a show tries to set up a specific atmosphere or takes itself seriously, then anything that hurts that atmosphere (like mixing drama and comedy right next to eachother) and serious tone is a negative.
That includes gaping plot holes, characters acting like no normal being would act, and so forth. Improper comedy and  fanserive that don't help the plot of character development at all. Styles and ideas that hurt the moment, trying to be too artsy/philosophical/symbolic, cheesyness gones out of control, plots that make no sense, and so forth.

I watched the first episode of some anime called Senyuu. It was kinda cool tbh.

Watched it too. I usually don't watch these short OVAs. But this is good.

@RedArmy - Well, I watched the first ep, and frankly I'd be more interested if I hadn't seen Spice and Wolf. It feels too similar.

I'm pretty sure none of you guys care about shipping, for the most part I don't either, however I figured you'd guys get a few lulz out of this:

Turns out, the people over at the headquarters on Shonen Jump spent the hole morning discussing about a particular pairing, Naruto x Hinata, and whether or not they'd get married, and who would be the maid of honor, etc.

I f**k you not, that was in their twitter:

Honestly, I laughed. Mainly because Naruto is not a romance series, so it tells you a few things about SJ...
Lol.

Introduce me some anime movies and series which aren't for children or teens and also have no (or minimum) sexual content though are mature. I want something deep and epic.

I've watched Cowboy Bebop and Spirited Away. My sister has 'Death Note'. Is it interesting?

It is, yet it is also "shonen". Meaning that its demographic wasn't adults. Yet it *is* quite mature, if not philosophical, even though the overall "angstyness" of it.

Oh, and I bet you'd find Neon Genesis Evangelion an interesting watch. It's my favorite show tbh, and one that has many up-to-your-alley philosophical themes (Plotinos! Hegel! Sartre!) tucked in beneath the otherwise funny biblical, often name-dropping thematics.

Also, anything by Satoshi Kon. You might want to start with Millenium Actress. But his masterwork remains Paranoia Agent (from my perspective of course).

Also, FLCL. Although it's crazy (fun).

After that - also as an overview - I'd recommend more calm shows like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Berserk, Tatami Galaxy, Ghost in the Shell (a must! I'd start from the 1995 movie), .hack/SIGN, maybe even Sword of the Samurai.

@Legatus - I definatley wouldn't reccomend NGE. It's pointless philosophical drivel that goes nowhere.

But what to reccomend?
Legend of Galactic Heroes
5cm Per Second
Ergo Proxy
Monster
Planetes
Jin-Roh
I hear Paprika and Paranoia agent are good.

Kinda hard to classify something as "exclusively for adults"

Ehh I'm having no problem finding stuff to watch on the other site. My back log is massive and my current seen list is well past 200 now. As to more adult stuff, not hentai that is.

Might want to watch Another.

I do love Clannad and Kanon, but Angel Beats just seems a bit too overmelodramatic even for my tastes.

I will admit that the pacing in Angel Beats is a little strange at times, and although I love the score, it is sometimes used in odd ways that don't always fit the scenes. But that show made me tear up so much. ;-;

I originally only started watching it because the VA for Hinata is the same as Furuya from Sankarea, but I ended up loving it. I just wish there was a litle more in the vain of closure for the other characters. I wanna know wtf TK did before dying D:

Well said, and that's it. I would actually be all for tearring up, but the way it's presented...

Key does great music. If you haven't already, I strongly suggest checking out Clannad and Kanon.
