You do know he didn't know that was happening right, just because mage families know other family magic does not mean they know their secrets and training. Had Kariya told him what was really going on, he would have helped Kariya ASAP because what was going on was what he had feared would happen to Sakura. In the anime it is never explained properly but in the LN and in UBW and HF it's proven, both Sakura and Rin have dangerous potential for magic, both must be taught, that is why he gave Sakura to Zouken because he thought it was for the best(and do know he struggled big tim with this choice) However ZOuken ended up doing what he feared and had Kariya not been such a selfish ****** obseesed with Aoi and tried to look at things from Tokiomi then Sakura would have been saved. Instead what happens?

Kariya causes far more damage, widens the distance between him and the Tohsakas, makes Aoi brain damaged and his very death did way too much damage to Sakuras already fragile mind.

 

I don't even like Tokiomi, nor do I dislike him. I can however understand why he did what he did and that his intentions where good, he simply made a mistake. What I do dislike is the Kariya hypetrain that dams Tokiomi even tho Kariya ended up doing far more damage. You will see in the second season just how dangerous Rin is and how it would have been disastrous. Tokiomi had good intentions, he just made the mistake of giving Sakura to the wrong family. Still better then Kariyas selfish goal of just wanting Aoi for himself and wanting to be a pseudo father to Rin and Sakura. 

 

Again, this is another aspect the anime didn't explain properly(where the Light novel went into great details, same with Gils true incarnation and Kiri and Maiya relationship}

Fate route is a necessary evil sadly, tho the Rider and Saber fight is great. Probably the only good fight in that entire route really, the two fights that would have been epic are just talked about ;_;

So I finally finished Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2nd GiG. Took me only 3½ months to do so. But I did it, and here is my review of it. Unfortunately my hands slipped while I was writing this, so it turned from a review into a quasi-analysis of sorts and is thus quite lengthy (considerably longer than I expected it to be while I was thinking about it in my head). There are no spoilers in it, but I put it into a spoiler box since I don't want people to needlessly have to scroll through the page.

 

So anyway, without further ado--enjoy:

I think it really goes without saying here that Ghost in the Shell is one of those shows that is a masterful blend of visuals and psychological examination. In its very essence, GitS showcases the interaction between humanity and robotic life and utilizes different aspects in the narrative to portray them through different means. Not only does it manage to bring up questions on the very definition of “life,” it also manages to show the complexity of how humanity attempts to define life within a world where people are able to seemingly exist physically and psychologically. 2nd GiG is easily the most fully-realized vision of what the franchise has to offer, since through its combination of episodic stories and overarching plotlines, the series fully gets to explore its vast world through many avenues wherein all its factors are put astutely into play in the narrative.

 

The central theme of the series revolves around the concept of the stand alone complex--which to put it simply is an incident that occurs when a bunch of stand-alone events appear to be working together in one complex operation. Season 1 depicted this with the Laughing Man case, in which it focused on portraying a series of incidents which initially appear to all be connected as the work of one criminal, but ultimately turns out to be a series of unrelated incidents by anonymous individuals. Season 2 takes this concept even further, in which the show broadens it in scope on a socio-political level--wherein it mainly focuses on the makings of ideological beliefs that in turns forms a revolution with Japan in the centre of it all. 

 

While Season 1 put into limelights the effects of technological advancements, the usage of internet and consumption of information had on society as a whole, Season 2 expands on the concepts of networking and communication heavily, wherein it creates an extreme version of the stand alone complex. Meaning as information is dispersed throughout the net, it either degrades in quality or is deliberately altered and becomes a mass consumption by people which in turn leads to a state that the show calls synchronization for each individual person--meaning it renders the term "individuality" an illusion. Due to this process, people can be easily dissuaded to form similar beliefs / attitudes, which is the method that is used in the show to instigate a revolution. The concept is something that could be applied to the group Anonymous--which operates on ideas rather than directives, though in GitS case it is put to the extreme.

 

Thus we come to one of the major reasons why I truly love this franchise; it treats the viewer as an adult who possess a level of intellectual maturity. GitS is a show that has a clear grasp on its concepts--everything from psychological to political ones--and knows how to write the story and not simplify them to the viewer. While I understand the necessity for it--having to create a superficial representation of something more "complex" so that a large audience as possible can appreciate the medium--ultimately it is something that I loathe and more often then not the show suffers from it, and makes the story either a lot more simple than it comes across or just fails horribly. Thankfully this is not the case with GitS, since it expects the viewer to be educated enough to understand what the show delves into. The show does suffer a bit from trying to come across as a bit too "presumptuous", since it has a certain tendency in wanting to explain rather simple concepts as unnecessary complicated just for the sake of being more intellectual. This is thankfully a minor annoyance within the narrative, since one can grasp the core of the story just fine, but is still dumb in its own right I find.

 

Something that I found that 2nd GiG improved upon was its execution when it comes to pacing and dispersal. This applies from the main narrative to the actual combat that transpires within the show. Each aspect of the plot is very clearly covered, used and acted upon. Each element of the story is involved and well thought out, especially in relation to other elements. Almost every action sequence is well choreographed and acted, which allows the viewer to get a good scope of where the fight is taking place, what’s at stake, who is in control, and what each move could mean for the characters. The show features a vast array of characters, and most of them get a surprising amount of characterization, which is not excluded to Section 9 alone. All these factors complement the show and makes it an enjoyable journey on so many layers that you can't help but appreciate it all.

 

So with that all said--Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is one of my all time favorite shows, and easily lands on my 2nd place of anime that I've watched. It is an intelligent series created for a mature audience who can fully appreciate everything that it delves into and that is the sole reason why I've fallen in love with this franchise so much. I can definitely see myself rewatching the entirety of the series, after I've gotten them on Blu Ray.

 

And now I'm off to Log Horizon!
