G Gundam is best Gundam.
That said, most of the Universal Century series are good. The 08th MS Team and 0080: War in the Pocket being the best of the Universal Century.
As for the bad Gundam shows. Wing is awful, 00 is Wing if it was more awful and the Seed shows really, really, REALLY suck.

I forgot the nightmare that was G-Gundam with its Neo Mexico Gundam, that looked like you would expect a Mexican Gundam to look *lol's at the Lumberjack Gundam of Canada* lol that Anime was Racist.
For the most part all of them are even fights or full on wars. In a couple of the cases, there are some superpowerd ones, but they are on both sides, so it evens out. Way better than 00 at least.

Watxching Gundam 083. You are right, it is better.
I prefer the more realistic art style to the gigantic uber-eyz one. The story seems more sensible too. The only flaw so far is the Marty Stue main character.

Lol all of the Gundams have that. I can't recall one where the MC is even hurt bad. Wait not true 8th MS the hero lost his leg in the war, though he gets his woman and lives in a cabin in the woods with her pregnant, so I guess its not all so bad for him lulz.
Gundam SEED has a few close calls. But in none of them is the Hero dead. Comes close a few times though. Well Char's Counter Attack is another exception, both the Hero and the Villian's fate is left unknown. Though if you have an itch for mecha, there are better shows with a more "realistic" standing that you want. Such as Patlabor and a few others I know of.

It's basicly, hero is *incredibly* talented, he's the obvious authors favorite pet, has incredible luck or conincidenced save him, and everyone that is mean or doesn't like him is evil or a douchbag.
Maybe the more correct phrase would be a Scrappy character - the one the author wants you to like, but you end up hating him.
