I like Shirou quite a lot actually. Sure he is a baka, but as a character that undergoes moral maturity through different individuals that he interacts with and events that take place across the narrative, helps make it a rather intriguing character journey and which is something that I enjoy. What makes Shirou shine is that he is surrounded by other great characters, many who have an influence on him in the story (most notably Rin and Archer).

If UBW delivers on what it builds up to regarding a lot of aspects, I wouldn't be surprised if Shirou ends up as one of my favorites when anime is concerned.

Shirou has taken good leaps forward with me so it's not like nothing has changed. He just started as far away as he possible could with a character type that I at best merely tolerate. I always appreciate solid character growth so it's now all about just how close to the type of character I do find interesting that he get.
