So Sim. If I start reading Berserk what should I expect?
...No pictures though, I'd prefer it in writing.
A deep, compelling narrative with complex characters and themes masked beneath 150% testosterone, demons, blood, guts and a lot of heavy dark stuff.

Even though this is directed at goddamnitSim I'll throw in my two cents here.
Expect extremely grey themes and characters, a long story with character arcs that extend through the entire duration of it, tons of rape and murder, amazing art and some epic scale fantasy battles.
Above all the story sets out to show you the best and worst oh humanity so I think it goes without saying that duality is a key theme here. It will show you the worst things people are capable of as well as show you glimpses into genuine humanity.

Ah.
Seeing anything about Berserk can be misleading.
It's kind of the opposite of that one anime/manga that comes off as very deep/complex on the surface but is total gobshite once you dig into it.

My exposure to Berserk initially was the OP
Not the anime. Just the OP.

Berserk is truly a lot more complex then initially meets the eye. It's one you could easily write off as being pretentious and just fucked for the sake of shock value but there is soooooooooooo much more to it then meets the eye as Sim here understands.
It's far too easy to fall into the trap of thinking this is a story about good versus evil or wrong versus right when those don't exist in the world of Berserk.

This is more accurate.
It's semi-spoilerish but nothing too much that you wouldn't get.
Like, it won't show you the BIG "Red Wedding-tier" Spoilers on the manga.
Now please don't be that guy and watch the movies first.
Trust in everybody else here who's read the manga and said it's great.
Especially Dominus who started with the anime then moved onto the manga and immediately saw the improvements.
Keep it mind that Berserk is probably the darkest thing you'll ever read. So if you get put off by awful things happening to people then yeah...
Now I'm going back to sleep.
Adios.

Viz media took it down.
So opening to the Devil May Cry anime it is.

More or less.
But it was more of an AMV using the original song and had a lot of pink CG lumpies and tentacles. Can't seem to find that one.
Oho here it is.
Possible spoilers, **** if I know. I think it's from the PS2 game.

Opening scene is Guts screwing a demon.
Of course!
Screw you!
No need to be so hostile.
You might actually like it if you gave it a chance.

That's kind of what I was thinking in many ways.. a lot of humor and silliness, doesn't take itself so seriously...

Thought about going into that one along with Blatt.. the weird thing is though I feel I'd expect to like it and stuff.. so paradoxically I'm not as motivated to actually delve into it. One Piece on the surface I don't totally understand the appeal.... no denying the popularity though I guess.

Totally thought Rickert was a girl.
I was shipping it already.
Well.
I can still ship it.
Anyway I have it bookmarked and have upgraded it from "nah" to "I'll get to it."

I just finished watching 'The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya' in addition to both series. I enjoyed them all, found them to be great, especially the movie. I'll do a write up of the anime and the movie, probably tomorrow, don't really feel like it right now.
I'm excited to find out about this: http://en.wikipedia....agato_Yuki-chan(not sure if it's a sequel or just an alternate universe, but it's happening this year). I'd definitely like a continuation and to

But I want to hold my tongue so I'm not constantly referred to as the worst again. Because I'm really hoping it gets better.

Spoiler.
The movie is fantastic, as far as a season 3 goes though, I think they don't have enough material from the Light Novels to use.

It's a spinoff from the movie (well, the light novel off of which is based the movie) which follows the reality if Kyon hadn't done the thing at the end.
A proper season 3 is scheduled for a timed release alongside Half-life 3.

They could always make another movie, The Disappearance of Huruhi pulled in 830 million yen ($6,966,887) at the box office.
