But really, you cannot set against modern art as a whole, nor against the notion of a piece of art getting a life of its own. They're too large for ya'. Modern art is accepted, as-from a logical continuation in history (and can be understood through this) and real.

But your even bigger problem is the notion that a creator wants or should want to explain his/her piece. You've not done any art, have you?

Modern art is 99% garbage and pretentious bull**** IMHO.

I've done art, and I'm good at it. I just don't recognize a lot of the stuff you would as art.
Frankly, I'd make a commentary on modern art by wiping my ass on a piece of paper, but I'm afraid some modern art critic might get a bright idea to frame it and make a exhibition.

It does seem that art can be not-artistic and non-artful nowadays. But I'm more than fine with that.

As to more on-topic about Evangelion, well, Dom mentioned "psychology". Yet the things in Evangelion certainly do not pertain as much to the scientific discipline as they do to emotionally and associatively evoking feelings in the viewer. As art.

Yet I do not think anime as a whole is art. Nor is Evangelion. But it *is* masterful in the *use* of art, mostly in a modern sense.

As to "symbolism", well, I don't really understand what's meant by it. If emotional associations and imagery as well as theoretical ones be thought as "symbols" then Eva is symbolistic. I'd rather not call it such though.

Yeeaah... Kinda got me there. Some art-videos (and possibly books) are certainly art if with the pretension of being that. Yet I cannot think of a good example nor some definition. Usually the purpose of movies or books is different (more of fiction -and narrative-related... stuff?) and they're more temporally extensive (i.e. long for an experience, often giving you freedom as to when to continue "living in to it", which is different to the "presenting" of art, maybe). That's all I can make of the subject as of now.

Last hour or so I have tried to fix up a list on MAL. Too damn hard. I have way too many shows I've dropped or planned to watch the rest of them later... Most of which are hard to just remember, moreso the ep count...

I came across a trailer/PV today for a new anime soon to be released, called 'Date A Live'. I don't know much about it, other than the fact it's based on a light novel and it judging from the PV it looks pretty awesome.  The animation style is super clean, and I really like the character design~

Colour me curious. Has anyone else heard anything about it?

So, here's a MAL. If anyone's got suggestions or rants about any anime or my list I'd be happy to listen.

However, I did leave out a lot of oldies and concentrated on new shows. I won't, for example, list many real classics because I find it hard to rate them. + of course there's many missing from simple memory loss or irrelevance of the show to my here and now.

Also, one should note that I didn't list episode counts for shows that're on hold nor precise ones for shows I dropped - simply because it would take too much effort to keep a list updated so. Yet all I listed I could rate, however incorrectly, the bare minimum presumed is at least 2 episode count for most shows.

Oh, and though I tried to account for the "objective", ultimately shows like Gantz and Air Gear were put where I felt was their place. Subjectively.

Tho I do think I should maybe remove the tags from the shows I dropped. I put them there to keep it categorised, but really, it comes off like really arrogant. :/
