But really, you cannot set against modern art as a whole, nor against the notion of a piece of art getting a life of its own. They're too large for ya'. Modern art is accepted, as-from a logical continuation in history (and can be understood through this) and real.
But your even bigger problem is the notion that a creator wants or should want to explain his/her piece. You've not done any art, have you?

I've done art, and I'm good at it. I just don't recognize a lot of the stuff you would as art.
Frankly, I'd make a commentary on modern art by wiping my ass on a piece of paper, but I'm afraid some modern art critic might get a bright idea to frame it and make a exhibition.

But ok then, have you ever thought you'd need to explain your pieces?

Yet I do not think anime as a whole is art. Nor is Evangelion. But it *is* masterful in the *use* of art, mostly in a modern sense.
As to "symbolism", well, I don't really understand what's meant by it. If emotional associations and imagery as well as theoretical ones be thought as "symbols" then Eva is symbolistic. I'd rather not call it such though.

ALSO, if anyone's interested in seeing what a real man's list looks like....

You're handing out 9's and 10's like it's candy....
Well to be fair, some of that comes from MAL splitting series into their individual seasons and what not.
But yeah otherwise my tens are completely justified :I

Are movies or books art?

If you have a problem with Nicki Manaj, Michael Bay's Transformers or High School of the Dead being art, just think of them as Dr. Suess illustrations. They are still considered art, despite the fact that they aren't profound. Art is considered something that expresses human emotion in a way words can't, so I'd say books, movies, music and anime art indeed art.

I "add" a show, and it just doesn't add it anymore!
@Hanar - That's a good theory.
I tend to agree with you.
edit: I'm through with MAL. Been feeding the page shows for about three hours now. Should ignore the site from now on!

However, I did leave out a lot of oldies and concentrated on new shows. I won't, for example, list many real classics because I find it hard to rate them. + of course there's many missing from simple memory loss or irrelevance of the show to my here and now.
Also, one should note that I didn't list episode counts for shows that're on hold nor precise ones for shows I dropped - simply because it would take too much effort to keep a list updated so. Yet all I listed I could rate, however incorrectly, the bare minimum presumed is at least 2 episode count for most shows.
Oh, and though I tried to account for the "objective", ultimately shows like Gantz and Air Gear were put where I felt was their place. Subjectively.

Tho I do think I should maybe remove the tags from the shows I dropped. I put them there to keep it categorised, but really, it comes off like really arrogant. :/

"If anyone else kills you, I'll kill that person."
"If I kill you that means I'll be the one closest to you when you're on your deathbed. Isn't it romantic?"
Lol I would love to have a girl like that to an extent I think, keeps things on there toes.
