I was thinking of checking out Tokyo Ghoul (just the anime). Can I skip that first, I guess, season and go straight to that root one that I hear is less terrible? Or are they both terrible? Or is neither of the parts terrible?

*blush* Thank you, dear kohai. X3 Speaking of which, Isi and I have been doing a rewatch of our own the last few weekends. TRS time this weekend.
It worked out amusingly well that Rebellion's blu ray release one year anniversary is coming up in a few days and like he mentioned earlier, the movie is what got us really talking so the timing of the rewatch worked out nicely. :3

LOTGH can be depressingly tragic like that.
Anyway.
Monster just bumped up from a 7 to a 10.
After the Neo-Nazi crap it kind of slumped down for me. Tenma hasn't made any serious developments in a while and the kid who travels with him does absolutely nothing for the story. The overall narrative was heading in a slug's pace (as in developments made, reveals etc), though I have to give it to them, the whole incident with the Criminal Psychologist was great.
However this last arc was 10/10 all the way. Johan is finally given the spotlight, the intrigue was exceptional and the Private Eye was a perfect addition to the story involving once again the main theme, which I suppose could be described as the *cringe* evil within all of us *cringe* and had a very satisfying character arc.
So yeah, hope it stays that way.
