He better not over-complicate things like he did with Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris. Because that will be very disappointing and frustrating.
Ah ha! Stupid beautiful griffith?
Godzilla tho.

Anyway, finished Hunter Exam Arc. Or well I guess it is still going considering that one guy stated that it isn't over yet but whatever, wanted to throw in my impressions of it.
Well I enjoyed it quite a lot. It was quite a solid arc that managed to right out of the bat introduce the premise of the show and consistently develop upon if to stand on its own, through the use of a variety game show. Not only was it entertaining; wherein half of the fun was learning the unique rules of each new game and experiencing how the characters will interact with the set pieces, but that it managed to give color to the characters and world building. While naturally the most focus was centered on the main group (Gon, Killua, Kurapika and Leorio), what I appreciate with shonen series--which from my experience tend to feature a large cast of characters--is that while the side characters are necessarily not as fleshed out as the main characters, at least they add some sort of layer to the narrative to complement it in various ways.
In comparison, one of Oda Eiichiro's strengths with One Piece is his ability of featuring a large rooster of uniquely quirky characters each with their own personality and design. Through this, the variety makes the world feel mysterious and vast, and the characters represent so many different perspectives and ideals that they give the story a sense of worldliness and intellectual weight. HunterxHunter managed to do this as well, which is something I appreciate it for. Arguably it could have been done a bit better, but since it was one big elimination game, and the arc served more as one big introduction to the series, so what it managed to do in 20 episodes is impressive and I'm expecting the series to deliver on said aspects a lot stronger further on.
I'm not in a position to label HunterxHunter as of yet, but if the Hunter Exam Arc is anything to go by, it is a battle anime at heart but incorporates it through different avenues instead of restricting itself to actual fight scenes. The show introduced some "mental fights", wherein the narrative has the characters relying on tactics and manipulation to get an edge (I quite enjoyed the one with Leorio and the Pink Haired chick in the tower, even if it was rather one sided. Still hilarious and fun though). What I like to point out though is how the show puts weight on "losing". Shonen tend to be quite predictable, wherein you know how the main characters will pull through. The raw talent for the author is to write the scenario as unpredictable as possible, wherein the audience have no clue how exactly the main characters will reach their goal. HunterxHunter managed to do this quite impressively, wherein it created scenarios in which losing won’t necessarily put the main characters out of the game, or in which the circumstances for winning are a bit more complicated, which allows his characters more opportunities to fail. This allowed for some surprising scenes in the arc, and not once was I bored (I was quite surprised that I had hit the episode 20 mark).
So yeah, HunterxHunter has certainly been fun so far, and I'm interested in seeing where it goes from here. Killua I think will get some more character development from where the show is headign, which I'm looking forward to.
