So, Lucky Star...

You know how everyone has a list of shows that need a second season? Lucky Star is on my list. Despite being 24 episodes long, I felt like it was too short. Lucky Star had so many surprises and just kept catching me off guard: from making multiple references to Haruhi Suzumiya to adding new characters to the show 18 episodes in. The humor and the characters were very much the driving point for me and that's okay because I felt like those two things were what the show was about. There wasn't much in the way of plot or character development, but it's High School, were our High School lives filled with plot and character development (mine wasn't)?
One thing that really fascinated me was how the ending video changed every time. Another thing that fascinated me was how simple (and yet odd) the start of the show was. It started with the main characters discussing the different ways that they ate the same foods for 5 minutes straight:

In a weird way, you are able to learn a bit about the characters through how they said they ate. The conversations between the characters always felt real and natural based upon their personalities. Lucky Star is surprisingly well written despite not having any overarching plot.
If you are looking for a show that is packed with references to other anime, is hilarious, will catch you off guard, has great music and characters, then look no further. I would recommend having quite a bit of watched anime under your belt before viewing, because the references make it that much more enjoyable. Lucky Star gets a 10 out of 10 in my books.
