That should have been UBW Good Ending tbh.
This would be even better...

Berserk is cuter tbh
Look at those two sexy men.
"If you liked Berserk... then you might enjoy Sword Art Online!
Both have a Black Swordsman, hacking and f*cking things!"
................
Yeah, I guess.
K-On characters look like Chipmunks though. It's off-putting.
Holy **** they do. I didn't even notice it until you mentioned it and now I can't stop seeing it.
You don't get to say that!
They look like the 90s Alvin and the Chipmunks!
Like the Direct to video movies where they encountered the Frankensteins Monster and Werewolves.
That's the first thing to pop into my head when I see them.
Tomoko is pretty much me with my gender swapped, so get ready for maximum
awesomenessawkwardness. I'm glad that you are watching my favorite anime.
Watamote is an interesting show because it can be regarded as a study on Social Anxiety. A fair amount of viewers have called the show downright cruel and horrible, but I like to look at it for the humor in it, nothing better than to laugh at yourself, right? I am somewhat of a subscriber to the whole "comedy is tragedy remembered" thesis. I've done a lot of the stupid stuff that Tomoko does and I have found myself in quite a few identical situations to hers, so I take comfort in knowing that I'm not the only insane/awkward person on the planet. One thing that is interesting about Watamote is how she really brings a lot of it on herself, which is something that I've been extremely guilty of upon looking back.
That's something I will absolutely give the show that it made me so much more aware of how people like Tomoko might feel and act. Quite educational and I think the strong level of awkward I felt only made me more aware. Noticed a few traits in myself that I've been able to do something about, didn't actually realise I did some of the things.
Once again, anime teaching me stuff!
Yeah, I guess.

You're not the first one that I hear saying that and.. yupp they do kinda look like that.
Yeah, I guess.

Meh, you can have the right one. I'll take two of Guts, please!
Oh, I can totally find self-derating humor to be funny, I'm usually the type who likes dark comedy, like say Fight Club, Big Lebowski, Fargo or American Psycho. Although, from my point of view, this anime exaggerated this 'subculture' to the point of absurd stereotype, which is usually played for laughs, somewhat similar to how anime tend to treat trans-gendered people or homosexuals with an arguable exception to Stein's Gate. I didn't find it particularly clever, just sad, in a bad way, really.I'm mostly going into it under the impression that the humor falls... Kind of in a sense of being an introverted and or socially awkward teenager can be well, awkward as ****.
I'd say the biggest laughs I personally got from the first episode was: 1. When Tomoko was trying to plan her escape from NotMcDonalds to get around her classmates (the escape plan made me giggle cause yeah, I've felt that kind of stuff before when I was younger) and 2. Just how happy she got over mumbling a goodbye to her teacher. Cause again while I can ramble up a storm textually, I still sometimes get insanely uncomfortable around small talk in person so making it out of those situations not feeling like I made an ass of myself is a treasure and I'm thirty...
So yeah I guess I'm more inclined to take the humor more along the lines of "Yikes. This can be *entirely* too relateable..." but that's just me.
ETA so I'm not double posting: That's exactly it for me too Vroom. I'm technically watching it with Isi and he can vouch for the fact that I had a few moments (mostly the ones addressed above) where I said "Yup. I'm totally guilty of this kind of thing."

I've finished episode 1 of Welcome to the NHK and I am wondering what the heck it is that you people are making me watch.

I get you completely there. I admit originally going into it, I wondered just how things were going to be handled. I mean I've only seen the first episode so far so I can't comment *too* much on how things are handled going forward.
Speaking of which, Princess Jellyfish had popped up on my radar a while ago and I initially got a bit worried when it was made known that one of the characters is a crossdresser. But everything I've seen about it and people I've vaguely spoken to on the subject make it plainly clear that it's not played as the butt of jokes, so that did make me happy.
I mean Welcome to the NHK has been on my radar for much longer (when I got back into anime after a long hiatus around 2010 or so) and between comments from you, Isi and Hanar, it seems to cover a lot of the same sorts of subject context as Watamote, just a bit more... tactfully maybe? I'm a sucker for things I can relate to, both negative and positive aspects alike. Much like what Vroom suggested, the amusement for me from Watamote so far has come from knowing that perhaps I'm not the only person that feels these kinds of things, as ridiculous and self depricating as they can be.

I think you'll end up liking it even though the starting of it is really odd. It has some of the realistic and human characters I've seen in anime. All very flawed but human and relatable. Stick with it for a bit.

And the comes Oberstein.
Quite accurate, no?
Can't argue with that. It's accurate and so wrong at the same time. Impressive really!
And the comes Oberstein.
Yep. I guess the last 10 episodes are gonna cover the rebellion and conspiracy.

By the way, are you watching the Dub or Sub? I was wondering if the dub was any good. I meant to watch the dub the second time I viewed it, but I couldn't bring myself to do so because Izumi Kitta was just so godly in her voicing of Tomoko. I'll try to shut up about Watamote now so that this doesn't turn into the Watamote thread, I just have a hard time containing myself when it comes to Watamote. ![]()
(you should check out the manga if you like the anime)

Gush away about Watamote however much you like. Other shows have been gushed a great deal more about and that's not been an issue. So gush away!
Vroom: We're watching it on CrunchyRoll so subbed! Isi feels the same as you regarding her original VA so I wanted to experience it that way and so far I'm not let down in the slightest. :3
And please, gush away! Folks' enthusiasm in the thread is exactly what pushes things around my list. It's a series that clearly means a lot to you too. :3 I mean we can always hop to PM if you're more comfy there, but us hijacking the thread for a bit isn't exactly a bad thing in my book!
Definitely going to be checking out the manga too at some point~ Might do that today actually cause I'm feeling a bit stressed and could use the pick-me-up.
I can't read it.
But god.
Did it still make me laugh.
I find the K-On! College Manga to be disappointing. It feels rushed and isn't near as fun as the show was. The cute things only really seem to work in the anime format for me.
