I feel like all of these 1-5 word sentences would be better suited in profile comments or something.

Interesting...

See, I'm even doing it myself, and I always feel like a one-on-one conversation would be better, but it's easier to post in the thread. I'm a hypocrite okay! D:

On a side-note: What is your avatar? I just keep thinking "Cosmic Owl", and I know I've seen it before, but I dunno where from.

Indeed very hypocritical. Be ashamed! Be very ashamed! D:<

As far as I know this avi is just the OVO (October's Very Own) owl. At least that's where I found it. It's a music label/blog

*Takes a bath with a toaster*
Speaking of, what about the brave little toaster? Would he jump into a bathtub to save someone? I mean, he'd just kill 'em, but he can't let 'em drown!

.......The f*ck am I even talking about?

But oh, okay. I've never heard of that, but it looks super familiar. Strange.

Alright! Sports!
(It's not really about sports is it? Not that I like sports anyway, but y'know.)

I got this fancy pen set as a gift. It says they're manga drawing pens, but they aren't the G-pen, or even a dip pen at all, so I must say, I'm wondering if the term "manga pens" is just meant to sell more, or if these really work well. I'll have to try 'em out soon.

Just says "Pigma Sensei" on the box it came in. Along with a little flower in the corner that says "Sakura". According to this little pamphlet, Sakura is the brand of ink. Also says "Made in Japan".

Hmmmm...

It's like what Clarkson said on Top Gear, someone in Japan had a picture of me on his desk and just decided "I'm gonna make an anime for bmwcrazy!"

Exactly like that! Came with the pencil and everything. My packaging was red, but that's the only difference, lol.

I just gotta say, that pencil is sturdy! It's like made of kryptonite or something!

Ladies and gentlemen, Madara is no longer remotely frightening.

TURNING YOUR CHILDREN INTO WORTHY SHINOBI MEANS YOU LOVE THEM

*said after burying a second-grader*

SO LET'S BREAK IT DOWN

Ninjas before the founding of the villages were completely stupid.
The First and Second's younger brother looks weird, don't know what the point of him was.
The Second Hokage was a proponent of making ninjas emotionless sociopathic automatons, gg number 2.
The Naruto world had it's own warring states period, with no Nobunaga or Tokugawa to beat unity into them.
Making children into soldiers was a-okay despite completely destroying your demographics.
Telling people your last name was a no-no, yet wearing your easily-identifiable clan symbol was hunky dory.

tl;dr the ninja world is incredibly incredibly stupid.

Maaan, child pornography laws must be much more lax in Japan then it is here in the States. I remember when they did the crappy version of Skins people were trying to file suits after the first episode. It even led to possible boycotts.

Then again, it could just be that we're more sensitive to it over here. I dunno. It just seems weird that almost every anime has a sexualized teen girl in it. I know I've said it before, but it's the one thing in anime that always has and always will bug me.

I think the age of consent it 13 or 14 in Japan, so yeah, they're not nearly as sensitive about it. Besides, Japan's just telling us the cold hard truth.

What teenage girl ISN'T overly sexualized? Teenagers can't keep it in their pants!

You know what? You're right! lol. I never thought of it like that. I was under the impression that the age of consent was 20 in Japan. That's what Wikipedia told me anyways, lol.

Let me quote some guy:

Personally, I find most anime to be contrived, recycled , emotionally adolescant, garbage. Mind you, I lived in Japan from ages 9 to 15, speak the language, and understand the culture implicitly. This is not to say it is all bad. There are some true gems; however, they are firmly within the minority of the genre and style. The problems typically extend from a few broad social deficiencies within Japanese culture.
• A) Extreme disconnect and almost completely perverse ineptitude of Japanese men to understand women and anything female.
B) A sort of self-perpetuating and idolized culture of adolescence, often compounded and related to point A.
• C) Most writing tends to reflect that adolescant angst and perspective, often causing stories to focus on juvenille plots or have their otherwise philosophic goals and overtones ruined by it.
• D) There are two things important in Japanese culture: Power & Beauty--in that order. These can be expressed in any form, not merely militarily or sexually. It can be economic and intellectual power or artistic beauty.
The above points tend to culminate in cliched, 2-dimensional characters, coping with adolescant angst and other baggage that should be resolved by your early 20s. It's not a coincidence or accident that the age of just about all central characters in Anime tend to be teenagers. Adolescant culture is fixated on in Japan more than any place I have ever been in the entire world.

I personally think it may be a bit too harsh, bu given the number of child protagonists, their tendancy to jam loli's in every nook and cranny, and also tendancy to fetishize....well
I'd be lying if I said that anime doesn't creep me out sometimes.
It's no wonder that "closet pedophile" and "pervert" are things often associated by people when you say "anime fan".

@ the bolded - at least it explains why there are no living Senju aside from Tsunade.

The one thing i liked about this chapter was that Kishimoto finally highlighted the child soldier issue. On another note, It's hilarious that Buggy is a Shichibukai.

Interesting post. And I agree with you.

Yet I can't understand why he brought this up nor what's bad about it:

Beauty--in that order. These can be expressed in any form, not merely
militarily or sexually. It can be economic and intellectual power or
artistic beauty.

At least they actually have ideals. Most people in the new world don't have one even, and if they do it's something fictional, superstitious, downright stupid or contradictory in its crudeness.

Beauty and power and simple yet powerful enough concepts to wield substance and meaning into culture.

That's still legislation. Though I guess both it and the attitude go hand in hand, I'd say the young-girls' and tolerance of media thing is more rooted into the depths of their culture. We have the age of consent at 14 or so in many places of Europe, yet don't have this type of "out-there" and otaku culture.
