At least they actually have ideals. Most people in the new world don't have one even, and if they do it's something fictional, superstitious, downright stupid or contradictory in its crudeness.

I really, REALLY hope you don't mean what I think you mean...because it might turn this thread into a flame war about religion.
And that really is the last thing this thread needs.

Maaan, child pornography laws must be much more lax in Japan then it is here in the States. I remember when they did the crappy version of Skins people were trying to file suits after the first episode. It even led to possible boycotts.

Then again, it could just be that we're more sensitive to it over here. I dunno. It just seems weird that almost every anime has a sexualized teen girl in it. I know I've said it before, but it's the one thing in anime that always has and always will bug me.

It's kind of the opposite - after WW2, MacArthur imposed pornography laws on Japan.  Previously, their art could be pretty explicit.  Depictions of explicit sex acts had to be obscured or were replaced by symbolic depictions.

One of the prohibitions was against the depiction of... ... hair in certain areas of the body.  (Don't know how direct I can be here.)  As an unintended consequence, lots of porn depicts younger women who haven't developed that hair.

...But they're totally old enough - ...it's just the way they have to draw them...  (Or something like that.)

I don't explicitly mean religion, as such, though many religious people fall under these categories. Sadly, very often religion isn't thought of as freely and loosely as it seems to be in Japan or many parts of Europe, for example. A fundamentalist *doctrine* about ideals is wrong, in my opinion. I don't see much of that in the mentioned regions.

And in the west, the money 'n items' hunting seems to be more idealized in ways. Power, understood more as potential and ability, subjected to Duty, which in turn is in my opinion subjected to Beauty is a far more intricate and elegant way of thought than simply that of following some few sentences or entertaining hedonism.

I'm not saying this little yet significant difference is so very widespread. There are countless things pursued in different cultures, and in west there's more of "Love" seeking, and that's pretty okey. Yet I really prefer the not-superficial Beauty beyond Duty beyond Ability that seems in Far-East history of philosophy and its influences on the contemporary.

!!! In no way am I commenting on religion, I'm rather commenting on cultural differences. Though religion is part of that, I tried to avoid the subject !!!!

As to HotD, I really need to look the show up some more.

Yeah, methinks you are now idolising the East a bit here. Because what I see is often very superficial.
Lord knows that the "Western" culture has it's problems tough..

Ladies and gentlemen, Madara is no longer remotely frightening.

TURNING YOUR CHILDREN INTO WORTHY SHINOBI MEANS YOU LOVE THEM

*said after burying a second-grader*

SO LET'S BREAK IT DOWN

Ninjas before the founding of the villages were completely stupid.
The First and Second's younger brother looks weird, don't know what the point of him was.
The Second Hokage was a proponent of making ninjas emotionless sociopathic automatons, gg number 2.
The Naruto world had it's own warring states period, with no Nobunaga or Tokugawa to beat unity into them.
Making children into soldiers was a-okay despite completely destroying your demographics.
Telling people your last name was a no-no, yet wearing your easily-identifiable clan symbol was hunky dory.

tl;dr the ninja world is incredibly incredibly stupid.

THAT SEVEN YEAR OLD WAS SENT TO DIE SO HE COULD

BUILD

CHARACTER

@ the bolded - at least it explains why there are no living Senju aside from Tsunade.

The one thing i liked about this chapter was that Kishimoto finally highlighted the child soldier issue. On another note, It's hilarious that Buggy is a Shichibukai.

I would like it too, but it seems like the 1st Hokage was the only one who cared about it. And all I can say to him is, congrats on the progress you and everyone else has made on that front Hashirama. Children are still pretty much raised to be ninjas from birth and face life-threatening situations as early as 12.

Yeah Buggy-sama became a Shichibkukai, because he is our lord and savior.

When it comes to Sex laws, the US isn't the norm. Its pretty much the most Tight ass country in the world next to the hardline Islamic States.

And I'll say ir right up Front It Puts Lotion on the Skin. I DO idealize the East for the most part lulz.

And pft, shut yer whinning all of yah on Child Soldiers. We all got to die sometime, and those that survive will be able to take on the world. Litterally.Take it all on, and for themselves in an orgy of murder and conquest.

Tell me about, I commented about this in another forum and almost got flamed. That was really pathetic from Hashirama. For someone that hated see kids going to war, you didn't changed that much in the long run. Kids still have to train from very early age and still need to go to missions at the early age of 12.

There's a difference between being trained to go on missions in order to become a better shinobi in the event of war and being trained to participate in war though. There's some sense of progress on that front because of the fradulent peace afforded to some of the villages.

There's some crazy stuff in the Manga and Anime that's for sure, I've seen things which I wish I could scrub from my brain but are stuck in my memory for all time. It's not all bad though, but one quick question, why are so many of their protagonists are kids or teens?

Anyone else read Gamaran? Iori Sengoku is a beast, but i have a feeling that the author is setting him up to be killed by Jinsuke before Gama finishes the latter off.

Way, way back when Naruto first started and we knew next to nothing about how the "ninja world" works, it did kind of make sense.

Like look what the Leaf ninja academy taught, only the basics of Taijutsu, Ninjutsu, Genjutsu and stuff like weapon/trap use. After they pass the "graduation" (where they only use basic jutsu) they are still not really Genin, not until they pass their Jonin captain's test will they actually become Genin.

Then when they are really Genin what types of  ninja missions do they do? Finding missing pets and garden work. lol This was actually smart, they would do crap missions for a few years as they learn more from their Jonin captain. It also gave Jonins something to do during peace time. But that was only how the Leaf village worked.

The real problem with the use of kids in war came in those Kakashi gaiden chapters. Kakashi, who was a Genin at 5, then a Chunin at 6 and then became a Jonin at 13 and was fighting on the front lines. That was stupid.

I always assumed they did it to have an innocent and uncorrupted protagonist. Someone who could grow and learn with innocence rather than greed and cynicism.

Some Geth, and Jaison1986 don't forget that the ninja academy was founded by Tobirama(lulz) so i wouldn't put the blame on Hashirama as he seemed to disagree with him on many instances after they were rez'd three chapters back.

So far Tobirama has been on a role when it came to making decisions that conflicts with Hashirama's ideals.

Tobirama invented zombies and the Uchiha persecution. So he is mostly pretty okay.

I know Kishimoto is trying to draw parallels from Madara and Hashirama to Sasuke and Naruto (respectively) but given the revelations on the chemistry of the Uchiha brain and how Madara, Obito, and now Sasuke have turned out I can't help but realize how incredibly justified the Uchiha genocide was.

It was a mercy kill, really

If Itachi and Shishui didn't have the Sharingan i would swear that they were adopted. Plus Madara is a contradiction as he accepts the deaths of his other brothers in the chapter(probably lying) but seeks world domination over Izuna's death.

The massacre was effed up but you have a clan of people who can't rationalize their emotions when a loved one dies, and are packing a potential pair of nukes behind their eyes. That's scary, can you imagine what would happen to the neighborhood if an Uchiha catches their spouse with the proverbial milkman or the busty secretary? lulz

Hard to say. I mean it could be one of the crew, lots of fans want Coby to eat it. Or no one will end up eating it. I really don't know.

And then you have stupid people who think Luffy should eat it.

Coby sounds like a good candidate if he's in the area, along with Blackbeard. Plus how would a logia rubberman even work?

Red Hawk. But that is not the point, Luffy would blow up if he ate it.

I think it's still  too soon for Blackbeard to show up again, but that would be really cruel to Luffy if he ending up eating it.
