I mean, in dragon ball anime you sit there and listen to a muscular guy groaning for like 15 minutes for transformation... ahem.
Japanese culture is very different from western and there are unique flavours to be found, to be sure. Some mangas I've read actually trumps over any western contents
My favourites are
Berserk
Le Cirque de Karakuri
Vegabond
Kingdom
All these have fantastic plot and mind blowing intensity. On the other hand I can't find charms in popular mangas like One-piece and Naruto. They all feel to teenage-ish.

(tbh this probably is still true somewhat). But this flash back story of Madara cut the camels back. I'm so ****ing tired of these parallels between characters and their stories. Not to mention the lame ass attempt to humanise every single antagonist, in the same tiring fashion.
Kishi's such a one trick pony hack now that it's disgusting.
Only reason I stomached it this long was because most other manga I actually enjoy to read always go on year long hiatuses or something. It's like a curse or something :/.
Vinland Saga's down to a crawl as well argh.....

I love to read mangas but anime is whole other matter.. Japanese voice actors are sometimes too much to bear.

Dragonball isn't really the best place to go for quality voice work. On a whole, I consider Japanese voice acting in anime almost always superior to the English dubs. That's not to say Japanese is better than English or anything, but I think if you watched animes with better acting you may not dislike the actors as much.
I suggest watching Steins;Gate. Mamoru Miyano as Okabe is a fantastic piece of voice acting imho.

And in the English version it's better? + I need to menion you're referring to Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball (wihtout the Z) is a comedy toon that really needs ot be watched in Japanese to understand anything really - and it's a much different beast than Z.
What about the Berserk anime? Or other seinen or josei series? (Planetes, Texhnolyze, Eden of the East, Ghost in the Shell to name a few)
Mostly the dub is sounding all dumb - Japanese voice-actors are actually considered superior in every way - they have it really rooted into their culture for one thing, and the different content and genres you get are really in myriad. Most titles haven't and will not air in the West tho - obviously.

Whelp, I officially stopped reading Naruto now too. Just too bad now to get any sense of enjoyment out of it. I gave Kishi a benefit of a doubt, since he did have some solid writing at the beginning, and that maybe fan pressure got to him and made him make some dubious script alterations

I still think it went to sh!t because Kishi's editors told to keep Neji and Choji alive. After that he just stopped caring about his own series.
@The Dragon Ball talk. Since when is a minute and a half in anyway like 15 minutes?

*snip*
My comments were misinterpreted. I don't like anime voice actings in general. And I did not even consider English dubbing when I said I didn't like Japanese voice acting, instead I was comparing it to more western mainstream movies and TV series, in which voice actings are much more realitistic as we hear in daily lives. I especially hate when the crowd gives idiotic exclamation soudn whenever in awe/surprise, though without it animes will feel a bit lifeless and too quite.

And I can see us misinterpreting. You seem to be more acquainted with this stuff than the usual by-passer of this thread.
Yet my question remains - what do you think of shows like Eden of the East, Texhnolyze, Lain, Ghost in the Shell etc? I can't see them being "loud" or "annoying" in much - if anything...

That image is a mix of Darker Than Black and Oriemo. Kirino never gets slapped like that in Oriemo :'(
I can relate to characters like Kirino.
I guess people also have wet dreams about slapping me in the face.

I actually enjoy the weird stuff. Japanese don't fail to surprise when the West has long become boring,
Some of my favorites I find genuine (most musical) enjoyment in. They're original and... ehm... mind-expanding. And that's *always* a good and enjoyable thing in my opinion. All confusion comes from non-tolerance and an ill understanding.

I was wondering if that word was made up in the last few years. I only found it in Urban Dictionary so I guess that's the case. Not really sure what it means.eroeru wrote...
