Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back

The Cinderella Project girls are some pushy motherf***ers.

So anyway, this one was solid I suppose. But towards the end it tries to make you feel sorry for Miku, but it's fairly obvious, given her overzealous competitiveness why she wasn't picked to debut in the first wave. It's not Miki trying making serious lifestyle adjustments but still being rejected levels so I find myself without a real reason to care. That and the Cat gimmick is really annoying.

 

Onto the episode itself. The plot centers around 5 of the girls being chosen to make CD/Mini Concert debuts as Idol Groups made up of 3 and 2 members.

New Generations (Rin, Uzuki, and Mio) and Love Laiku (Anya and...Lacross girl). Which is all well and good. The set-up is fine and there's even a funny joke (One of the girls imagining themselves with Love Laiku, and summarizing Anya's Russian as "Something, something, something).

 

This was ok. But still fairly average. Just not having pretty much any of the humor or heart OG iM@S had, so it's not connecting with me like OG did.

Episode 6: Tokyo Drift

Conflict rears it's head, much like a Croc sneaking up on its prey.

 

This one is about Love Laika and New Generations preparing for their debut. But by the end of it, Mio isn't satisfied with the amount of people in attendance (It's a small concert in a damn shopping mall. What are you expecting?). So, she weirdly thinks her friends (whom she invited) will think she's stupid for saying there's alot that will be there. So she storms off, and everyone acts like it's the Producers fault for saying it like it is. Not his fault Mio has unrealistic expectations.

 

Mio has no conflict. There is no reason she should act like this. Even if there wasn't a Colosseum sized audience like she was expecting. Her friends were still cheering her on with a glittery banner and everything. Which is all that should matter. Or at least I should think so.

 

Fak! Halfway through this and I'm really not having a good time.

I miss 765 Pro.

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting the episode titles. So I'm just putting in any random movie subtitle I can think of.

Episode 7: Under the Red Hood

You know who I like?

Chihaya Kisaragi.

While it's hard to pick a favorite iM@S girl I'd say she'd be probably be the closest.

Her arc was extremely well done. As it had proper build up, was written well, and the characters acted pretty reasonably given the situation.

 

This...is basically a poorly done version without anything that made Chihayas arc any good...But it does give more backstory to the Producer.

We continue with Mio's disappointment with the audience number of her mini concert. So she pledges to give up.

Which leads to Rin giving up.

 

So the Producer has to fix it.

Which he does. But really this whole scenario seems completely contrived. Nothing before implies Mio would have the problems she does. So it just comes out of left field. 

I'm going to stop here for tonight.

But if it's not obvious, Cinderella Girls hasn't exactly surpassed iDOLM@STER Classic in any way so far.

It feels very paint by numbers. Which is why I have so little to say about it.
