Neon Genesis Evangelion is something I haven't seen either tbh.

Your not missing much, IMO it's a show full of meh. The only reason people talk about it so much is because at the time it did new stuff to the mecha genre, kind of like how everyone talks about madoka magica like it's the best Magical girl show ever.

And I watched it because it has real substance to it.

Aside "psychological themes" there's a lot of philosophy going on for those who dig that. All's very artfully done - overall it's a powerful show full of tension and post-modernist brilliance!

No, really, if you didn't like the show, you were missing on its strong points.
double-edit: was feeling a tad defensive, but now removed the rampage rant.

Oh yeah I'm watching that one. Can't wait for S2, as to ending and what I would like to see, pft, you'llll seeee.

But yeah I'll be pissed if this end on an open note or not VN plot path picked.

You played the VN? Nice +1

Finished Psycho Pass. It certainly was better in the second half of the series, in all things, characters and art-work included. And I didn't have gripes with the end. Though Pops' "revelation" in ep 21 in the throwing-the-bomb-away-scene was really really cheap and was the lowest point in my opinion.

What started out as a mediocre series really rose up.

I finally got around to watching the last few eps of 'Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo' last night. Oh man. So many feels. I was practically in tears for the entirety of the last two episodes. Such an amazing series, I really enjoyed it. TBH I felt like it was a really honest anime, the character portrayal and the way they dealt with particular emotions and circumstances was really accurate, imo.

It was a good series, saddly its on a ongoing LN. So I didn't expect a ending, though from the spoilers I know of the last vol, I can say it seems to go well. And I suspect we'll get a S2, but it'll have to be once the LN is done...say in a year or so. Ah well.

Oh yeah, while I think of it ... I mentioned Date-A-Live some time ago, and it's finally started airing! The first ep is out and subbed, which I've just downloaded so I'm going to check it out. The second should be out any day now.

EDIT: So I just finished episode 2, and I'm not really feeling it tbh. I'll keep watching for now as it's released but the harem aspect just really seems to take over any kind of plot at all. It definitely feels like it's missing something...

Yeah I watched the first Ep of Date A Live. It was not what I expected, but the premise is really interesting.

Also, OreImo Season 2!!!!!!!!!!! Dat first episode tbh. I just hope another group other than HorribleSubs picks it up. They literaly just rip the subs from CrunchyRoll, which range in quality from "meh" to "okay"

@ Date-A-Live, neat concept to it so I'll be watching, as to OreImo I'm meh with though the first ep ended on a good note. I'll make a full list recommendation once the week has spun out with all the coming releases. So far we have stuff for pretty much every fan base however, couple good comedies so far as well.

The thing is I wouldn't really call DBZA mindless. The reason the parody works so well is because they know DBZ inside and out and can mock it with jokes making fun of a letter change in the english dub of Freeza's name, instead of just constipation jokes.

Yeah they know Dragon Ball really well.

I would even say their Goku is the best dubbed Goku there is.

So a mockery of (or parody on) Goku's high-pitched Japanese voice is the best dubbed Goku there is? Hmmm, okay. :wizard:

It's not really a mockery or a parody of Nozawa's Goku, just of the character. The Team 4-Star DBZ abridged Goku is the best dub Goku there is, he gets the character pretty great... and he's in the PARODY series where Goku's stupid is raised about 20 notches. What's up with that?  (Really, all the Team 4-Star voices are pretty great, almost all superior to the actual dub. How the hell?)

The only thing missing is Goku's hick accent, but all the dubs miss that anyways.

Watching "Blade of the Immortal" right now. Interesting and the art style is more to my liking than most others.

I've been watching k-On! for a little while

it's a pretty adorable series, I even wished it was longer, something I rarely feel on a show I like this much since I usually think they ended when they needed to

Yay, K-ON! I have such a special place in my heart for that series. Have you seen the movie? I felt like it was really well done, and a lovely touching end to the series.

In other news, I started watching  Uta no☆Prince-sama♪ Maji Love 1000% earlier tonight while I wait for  Hyouka to finish downloading. All I can say is...

It's so cheesy and amazing~ <3

Yeah I recognized your avatar as soon as I saw it lol

Anyway, no I still haven't, I recently finished watching the regular series and right now I'm starting to watch the second season, K-ON!!
I did hear good things about the movie though, so I plan on watching it once I'm done with that

I do have to give 4Star credit for their excellent dubs, yeah. It's pretty amazing.

I did feel that they chose a high-pitched voice-actor for Goku on purpose, who then raised his voice even more to really get close to the high-pitched Japanese Goku. I feel like they didn't just try to sound like the original Japanese Goku, but also make fun of it.

After all, the first time I watched the Japanese Dragonball Z, I was kinda turned off by Goku's insane high-pitched voice. I got used to it later though, and now I even actually like his Japanese high-pitched voice more than his English voice.

It makes me smile that the only dub that gets words of praise here (at least of Dragon Ball) is one that parodies.

Huh? Lawrence Simpson does not really have a high-pitched voice.

But yeah Nozawa is still the best Son Goku. She had the sense of fun and playfulness. Emotion and enthusiasm. Amazing screams. The best kamehameha.

Doesn't sound like taking a crap when powering up or attacking.

www.youtube.com/watch

And geez did the anime stretch out that SSJ3 transformation.

He just sounds like he's still childlike and innocent and like he never grew up is all. (Like Peter Pan!) Which is perfectly fine with the character looks and acts like this most of the time and it fits.
I was thrown off by that initially too but... you get used to that super quick. The screaming and Kamehamehas and quality make up for the "he doesn't sound manly" pretty quickly. (And helps distinguish him from Vegeta and Piccollo and such.)

And yet no one is upset by Sean Schemmel's retard with a lisp take on King Kai, (Which they kept even in the most recent dub when they recast almost everyone else!) even though he is a super serious sounding deep voiced guy in the Japanese.

The best dubs are still Eastern Europe's "emotionless man reads the script over the original dialogue and music."

yeeeh yeeeh yebu yeeeeeh

^ Being somewhat familiar with Finnish dubbing, I can say that's not the usual. :wizard:

But I'd like to hear something from actual East Europe. Something Polish or such.

edit: Actually, I now did some research on Finnish-dubbed anime, and it does sound... great... Didn't remember it being such really. Still, it's not exactly Eastern Europe. More of a cold badass Scandinavic or at least Northern European!

Caring about Goku's voice being high pitched in the original Japanese is something I forgot was even a thing. It wouldn't occur to me that TFS was making fun of that.

@J. Reezy Yeah that's a fine opinion.

I still think it's dumb that Dragon Ball is the only dub still worshipped by 24 year old manboys who otherwise only watch subs.

@eroeru The Finnish have such great emotion and soul in their dubs.

That's quite the hyperbole you've made there.

But I agree though. I don't even understand the praise for the English DBZ dubs. They suck pretty bad in my opinion. Then again, dubs usually suck pretty bad in almost every single anime or cartoon series. I always watch everything in the original language it was made in.
