Yes, from a purely story standpoint, I do like it more than Madoka, however, while SSY has a few tracks I like and a well laid atmosphere, Madoka does beat it in soundtrack and art direction when creating an atmosphere.

I still stand by my thought that Squealer should have died in agony, but what he got was a fair bit too much.

 

I'm more thinking of what he did to Maria and Satoru, as well as their child. Especially the child.

The village was no better then him. They had just as much a role in what happened as he did.

Even the village leader admitted their reasons for killing Maria and Mamoru was unjustified fear and nothing more.

I'm glad you liked it though. It stands as my 2nd favorite anime other then PMMM. I think from a story standpoint it's just as good. But PMMM's OST and animation and story working as a whole help bring it *slighty * ahead for me. It's close though.

The leadership of the village is controlled by fear and make some genuinly stupid decisions and are the original cause for right about every misery that happen during the conflict. Squaler obviously isn't free from blame since he took the one ace card he was given and put all the bets on it but it could've been avoided if the village hadn't "dungoofed"

 

And yeah both of us got SSY as our 2nd placed show behind PMMM and it's for very good reasons that it can on many spots compete with PMMM. Story and characters they are as even as it possibly can be and when it come down to categories like visuals and OST one know just how close they are in terms of awesome. If SSY didn't have its animation flaws in a few episodes it would've been even closer
