A lot of people that watch anime use the word pretentious just whenever they feel like it.

 

I've seen people call FZ, Madoka, SSY, Jinrui, Monogatari, and Gits pretentious.

 

To me that word has lost all meaning when it comes to people discussing anime.

I would say Psycho Pass registers above a 0 on the pretention scale, but not enough to seriously affect the enjoyment of it.

Or stop Mika from being based girl.

 

I liked the main villain more then the actual police girl in the show. Makishima had good points, and I agreed with him. His methodology I didn't agree with.

The only thing that was a little pretentious were all those philosopical quotes the villain threw around. Atleast thats how it felt to me.

Other than that I have no complaint.

I was actually watching it with my room mate. We both agreed we hate her, and that she is an idiot. She got her friend killed because she was too bound to the system. In the end, she still was.

I also complained about her actions but we're coming from a perspective ignorant of the system she's known and believed in her whole life. She only knows how to operate within the confines of the Sybil System, like a majority of the populace. Unfortunately that cost her a friend. She made a wrong move which could be considered the right one.

 

There is no way that could ever be considered a right move in any system. Basic self defense laws are in all systems for a reason. Makishima is correct in what he believes. The way he did it was wrong though.

Psycho Pass is one of those shows that I would never consider pretentious. It knows what it is doing.

Calling it pretentious despite that, I would go as far and say people don't understand what the show tries to convey.

Kurapika is best character really, so Yorknew > Chimera pretty much.

It definitely all kind of can be though, I definitely get this sense watching a lot of anime like they're trying to sound all clever so like in Evangelion you get blindsided by all this philosophy and Nietzsche but it's like kinda like eh....

This isn't about Shogo. Or are we just moving away from the whole "Akane is an idiot" thing? You live in a society where they tell you and teach you that everything is perfect and in harmony and blah blah blah and I doubt you would react in what we here would consider the most logical manner. Attributing real world world systems to fiction aside, these people have been bred by the system to the point where violence is practically foreign to them. The non reaction to somebody getting their face bashed in is proof of this.

 

Exactly, Akane is a child of her time and society. How she act and think will obviously be very different from how we do and judging her by our standards is quite silly.
