I think you misunderstand, I am not talking about slice of life comedies when I am talking about Moe blobs. A moe blob sacrifices EVERYTHING for the sake of having cute characters doing cute things, including a slice of life story. Which is what the general state of the industry is doing.

I like slice of life comedies, for example one of my favorites is Minami Ke!

Sooo....I like slice of life anime about cute girls doing cute things. Am I a moe blob fan?

No idea without knowing what you watch. Slice of life, and cute girls do not equal moe-blob in itself, its just the genre that gets them the most because of how easy it is to ignore any semblence of a story.

If K-On doesn't count, I guess I haven't watched any moe blob anime.

Eh, K-on more hated for starting the moe blob, its not necesarrily one itself. K-on is decently entertaining for the most part, although I admit I have not watched past the first season, and can't judge the rest of the series.

You know, i'm going to recommend an offbeat anime.

Akagi. Set in the 1950's, it is an anime about a young man (who seems like a devil sometimes) who conquers the world of mahjong in all its deadly glory. A good mature series filled with suspense and psychological warfare.

I hated Kaiji so personally I will (probably) avoid Akagi. In case it's similar, and it most probably is.

Kaiji hadn't one decent or smart character in it. All were gambling idiots, humans were reduced to constantly sweating kleptomaniacs.

On the moe-thing - well, K-ON was pretty good, but not the best I've seen. Actually, I don't remember a single scene there. Only some summer house, the beach and a test of courage. And I'm not sure if that's because it was memorable in a strong way.

Haruhi on the other hand had lots of moe - and I loved the series overall.

I watched the first episode of Jormungand, and was really impressed - instantly thought of it as another one by Rei Hiroe (Black Lagoon). But in fact it's not (so the obvious similarities turned out to be copied rather) - this doesn't reduce its value though. If you liked Black Lagoon and/or Gunslinger Girls, then have a try! It has a more serious and calm feel to it than BL - much like GG.

And there's 2 episodes subbed this far. Have a look in gogoanime or animefushigi (or whatever your method of "hypothetical purchase").

I haven't really been a big fan of animes in general. Perhaps because I was too lazy to look them up. I used to watch Dragonball Z (English VA's) and Pokemon (Dutch VA's) when I was young.

I was later on into a series I almost never see named in the "I watched series X"-lists: Last Exile. Did I enjoy a serie that was truly bad or is it just underrated? I really loved the series.

^^ Last Exile is awesome albeit for acquired taste. I personally didn't absolutely understand it, thus didn't enjoy it as much - but I get the reasons behind watching it. They are legitimate ones. :D

PS if you liked LE, you might want to give Kino's Journey a try. Or even Texhnolyze (it's much more dystopian - but I found it similar in a way).

I dislike everything shonen because of such scenes <----. However i do enjoy mature themed anime. Pretty nice

Well, that's cliche'd but that scene at least has some tongue-in-cheek value to it.

The worst cliche'd moments are from Bleach. This for example. Or this.
I couldn't watch them thoroughly through, so I don't know if Ichigo even says (shouts) "I'll protect you" or "mamoru!" in those, but they're pretty awfully cliche'd still. Save the music - Shiro Sagisu knows his craft.

Also, I'd bring an example of some ecchi-filled, school-life oriented flick, but I sadly don't know the names of any.

Strawberry panic is pretty horrible, and cliche'd - but it's yuri rather than shonen. So it's really not so much about the demographic - shonen works can also be done awesomely well, like Death Note and Hunter X Hunter (and I personally vouch for Air Gear).

You forgot to add One Piece, Fist of the North Star, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Black Jack, Bakuman, Slam Dunk, YuYu Hakusho and Soul Eater to the good shonen list. And I know you like Haruhi so you might as well add that too if you are going to add carp like Air Gear.=]

Now if only Bleach was just a cliche'd mess, it might of been an okay series... But what we really got was much, much, MUCH worse and that somehow makes it a fun read.=]

Oh and you want a to get into Gundam the first 3 shows(Gundam, Zeta Gundam, ZZ Gundam) are a good start. Then go for the Char's Counterattack movie and next 0080: War in the Pocket and The 08th MS Team(both of them are the best Gundam things ever.)

And if you like any of that then you can then try Turn A Gundam and Gundam Wing.

Hahaha. Yeah, you're probably right.

Maybe it's partially tongue-in-cheek that I did get to enjoy Air Gear and Gantz... Or maybe it's just music and make-belief euphoria.

I have already kicked Gantz's ass in this thread but all that needs to be said about Air Gear is this

That's just so loonie! Maybe I'm a lunatic, but that seems super-awesome (in a awesomely weird way)!

Yeah, it's not in a serious manner that I like the series. I often adore things that don't make sense and are all psyched up about it. =]

(and, as before, I explain the notion as resembling a dream where reality is torn apart and you get to feel psyched in an interesting and relevant way - Air Gear and Gantz are probably my equivalents to Alice in Wonderland, only that they've not been written by a genius-mathematician)

As much as I love anime, I haven't watched a single Gundam series yet... (though a few other mech-ones, if Escaflowne and Macross are to be counted). Any recommendations? :)

And, I just finished the third episode of Zetman. The series does not make any sense. The manga seems far better.

Gundam 08th MS Team. It's mostly an improbable love story, iirc. Kind of like if Romeo and Juliette were officers in opposing militaries. Also there's guerrilla war, but with Gundams.

I'm assumin' folks here have seen Record of Lodoss War, by the way, on a completely unrelated note.

I'm loving Naruto at the moment - something I never expected, because I thought it would be as bad as DBZ but with ninjas, but it's surprisingly well written once you get into it.

Hmm, what else... Studio Ghibli stuff is generally always good. Also loved Cowboy Bebop and Berserk (shame how the tv show ended). Ohhh! And Golden Boy and City Hunter - they're pretty hilarious. Golden Boy more so... That guy is all about true manly values :P. I think there's a basketball one I want to add to the comedy list, but I forget its name... >.<

Planetes is a good one, takes the near future and shows how humanity will have to deal with the incredible amount of trash we put in our atmosphere, and the company (mainly the fun characters) that do the work.

Its beautifully animated, and the characters still stick with me today.

There was no need to list every good shonen ever, was there?

But since you want me to. Saint Seiya is a good shonen and so is FMA, Skull Man, Cyborg 0009, Toriko, Phoenix, GTO, Gintama, Franken Fran, Eyeshield 21, Beck, Barefoot Gen, Dragon Ball, Dr. Slump, D.Gray-man, Beelzebub and Sket Dance. And a ton more I forgot.=]

@AwesomeName Soon you will get to the point where Naruto will get so bad, you will wish Naruto was DBZ(I assume you mean the dub version of DBZ?).

Hell Naruto even rips-off Dragon Ball at times, but at the start of the series, almost all of the good parts of Naruto were just a rip-off of Hunter x Hunter. The only really good and original thing Naruto did, was Zabuza and Haku and that was years ago.

@eroeru I don't know how, but I forgot to add one more Gundam show that I think you will like, and it was G Gundam. It is a must to see because it is the best Gundam show ever.

Well, that's debatable but it was a good one. Kinda like a cross between Gundam and Street Fighter in certain respects.

And that is why it's the best Gundam, that and this.
