I never had such cute ones. Then again I never had a school nurse, my graduating class was less than 3 digits.

Finished Princess Tutu!

 

OK so this anime fits into a similar category as Utena and Madoka Magica as being a deconstruction of the Magical Girl genre and in fact is probably one of the heaviest influences so if you're already a big fan of PMMM I'd strongly recommend this series. Even with that aside it's an incredibly strong watch on its own. Sure not everyone will be able to get into it but I think the story is strong enough that a lot of people who wouldn't normally be into Magical Girl shows might enjoy it particularly due to the deconstruction aspect.

 

It deals quite heavily with a Ballet theme as you can probably tell from the gif. Most of the OST comes from various ballets and IMO is quite wonderful.

 

The characters are the strongest point of the story for me. The entire main cast was all fantastic, as well as the secondary characters who were memorable and had a lot of great moments. What I like most is that between the 4 main characters the plot mostly revolves around none of them are simple and they're all very much in conflict with their base nature. No one is straight forward and no one is what they appear to be initially.

 

I found the animation charming and full of characters, although I should note it mostly uses a more faded kind of color palette that anyone who has watched older animes will be familiar with so others might find it a bit more dated.

 

The final thing I'll mention is it's very surreal and metaphysical. Ultimately it provides an in lore reason for all of this but it makes it an incredibly unusually creative watch at times early on. Most of you already probably know I'm a total sucker for surrealism so this sort of thing is right up my alley.

 

All in all I'd personally give this series a 10/10 based on my own tastes and enjoyment of it. I'm happy to say it's earned a spot in my top 10 list alongside it's other Magical Girl deconstruction sisters series.

 

 

 

OK back to LotGH now. I intend to watch the rest straight through now. Left off at the end of season 2 so I have seasons 3 and 4 to power through. I'll say in advance this is another series I'm quite certain will end up in my top 10 list as well, if not even my top 3 or 5 before the end.
