Good choice! I tend to dislike horror shows, but in Lain's case I actually ended up really enjoying the horror elements present in it. Which makes Serial Experiments Lain an extremely rare oddity for me. It helps that it's not strictly an horror show too. It just uses some good horror techniques to make the show more interesting.
 

That's some good effort, but it drags on way too long. Good entrances are flashy and happen in an instant.

Hopefully it will manage to be a bit more scary than the couple of horror shows I've watched as of late. No idea what's going on so far but that's refreshing so hopefully it will manage to turn this confusion into something very impressive.

Hopefully it will manage to be a bit more scary than the couple of horror shows I've watched as of late. No idea what's going on so far but that's refreshing so hopefully it will manage to turn this confusion into something very impressive.

 

Lain isn't really scary actually. It doesn't do jump scares and it's not going to make it difficult for you to sleep at night. The horror techniques are used more to instill a sense of "wrongness", for lack of a better term, into the viewer. Like "there's something really not right about what I'm seeing." It gets "creepy", but not "scary".

Since Lain has popped up in conversation, I feel it's my obligation to also once again nudge Boogiepop Phantom about. It's a bit more in the line of "technical" horror than Lain, if you will. Fantastic OST and a series very dear to my heart. Amusingly enough, it's the series that started me on my "Wow, episode 10 in various anime are usually something pretty spectacular" sort of thinking.

 

I got into both BP and SEL at the same time, so I kind of tie the two together. I've posted it before but this is also another chance for me to gush about one of my all-time favorite tracks too so...

 

 

The OST as a whole is fab though and one I still listen to fairly regularly even roughly 14 years after I got into the series.
