 I'll get to the brass tacks of episode 20's content shortly, but because this episode and the ones preceding it are so heavily focused on the writer's philosophical musings, I think it's important to put that stuff into context first, and to explain why it didn't work for me.

 

Rather than being about heroic ideals in broad, Shirou's story is about a “beta male” confronting various toxic images of idealized “alpha masculinity” (Archer, Gilgamesh, and Kirei) and rejecting them to become comfortable with himself as he truly is.

Gabriella Ekens, while having some great points earlier in her reviews, has started to chock more and more of her personal ideological standings and trying to fit it into UBW, which has no basis there at all. Seriously, masculinity? WTF!? And how is it that if you have a woman trapped it immediately leads to the show being sexist? Ugh...

 

This stems a bit from her standing regarding reviews, which she stated that there doesn't exist a thing like "true objective review" (which I agree with), but she thinks it gives her the opportunity to express her own views into it. Well she is entitled to her opinion.

 

What do you expect from the next episode?

 

Most importantly what Shirou brings to the table. We had Archer berating him for two episodes now, and what Archer brought forward was great and much needed to be said, since it is something that we the viewers have been seeing the flaws in Shirou's ideals. Now I find it critical for Shirou to bring forward why he is fighting Archer and why he is not giving up.

 

I am aware why Shirou is resolved, but he needs to properly display it to Archer. If he simply ends up saying lines like "You are wrong!" or "I will fight you either way!", well let's just say that disappointment is not enough to express my dissatisfaction.

Gabriella seems to think UBW is a study on idealism (lulz) when it's not. The biggest theme in SN is regret and how the characters deal with it. It's the link between every character. She however seems to ignore this and latch onto something that is simply a plot device, not something to be properly looked at as that was never even Nasu's intention.

 

Also the Zero praise is obnoxious since Zero was faaaar more sexist then SN ever was (Zero kills off four main female leads for the sake of dev for the male leads) but hey, just because Rin s captured and refuses to give Shinji the reaction he wants, it's sexist. WHat a joke.

I'm just... I almost don't even know what to say about this one. I was expecting it to be cringeworthy but then I read it properly (skimmed the points that talk about Zero of course) and can't help but feel the writer is seeing what they want to see. But again, I haven't watched the actual series yet and am going off a mix of watcher reactions here and what happened in the VN.

Which is also contradictory, since she earlier reviewed an episode last year where she stated that UBW is not a study on idealism and it is different from Zero, yet now she is stating otherwise. In addition that she also argued that characters in the anime don't get as much exposition as in Zero, yet earlier she was pleased that Illya and Souchirou got something. There is also more she has started to ignore.

 

Well whatever. She is displeased about something and if she doesn't enjoy it anymore, then it's her opinion on the matter.

Depends on how well Ufotable adapts the next episode since a lot of those thoughts are conveyed through monologue.
