Anyway YYHakusho is doing its 'defeat x amount of bosses' again.
It's not that I don't like it, because the fights are always interesting and well thought out.
But coming in from after HxH you can see why I find it just a touch disappointing.
I mean, it's basically Stardust Crusaders at this point.
Which is fine.
But nothing beats JoJo at what JoJo wants to do.

Still going to watch the anime once I'm done with the manga. Always welcome to good shounen.
Also heard the dub is ace so that's a good thing.
ETA:
Haha these fights were actually pretty damn clever.
As in.
There wasn't actually any fighting.
* Puts on fedora * I watched Silver Spoon before it was cool to watch Silver Spoon. Seriously though, it's nice to know I'm not the only person that liked it.Anyone who loves farm animals should watch Silver Spoon.

You should have helped me in my crusade to get peeps to read/watch it then.
Because Geth's about as useful as eunuch in a porn shoot.
I tried, remember? I brought it up a couple of times, Hell I even did a review for it. I gave it either a 8 or 9 out of 10. You told me nobody wanted to watch it, so I stopped discussing it lol.You should have helped me in my crusade to get peeps to read/watch it then.

Haha yeah, sometimes it's pretty out there with the lines.
Also speaking of art.
Who knew Togashi could draw.
Anyone notice the people in the crowds?
You might recognize a few.
Also, what's with the walls?
Is that building made of noodles?
Simfam is offline, post oraoraoraoraoraoraoras!
Poor mans Kenshiro.
There is only one king of rapid fisting

Here, have a uber-Kenshiro:

Finished Lain.
I got it, but had a better grasp of Proxy's happenings.
Red herrings and all.
Uhm.
Shows that want to discuss philosophy are better suited for me in Ghost in the Shell or Proxy.
I liked it, the ending was kind of depressing. But it's not something that I'd praise as much as LOTGH because it's something I can't appreciate as much as that. However I will recommend it to people, that's for certain.
Will check on analyses in case there's something I didn't pick up on. The show talks about a lot of things so there's a lot of things to ponder on. The existence of god, the metaphysical, existence of self etc...
Maybe it was far too 'out there' for me. You have to take things very literal, for example, the early supernatural occurrences are actually happening and aren't just illusions, but then sometimes they're made as if they are. The show definitely likes to throw you off the wrong track.
This is probably why I preferred Proxy overall, aside from that stupid-ass-game-show-episode, reality was reality and the more surreal events were either happening inside someone's head or were manipulated by Proxies.
Anyway, if Chris or Chewin get into it, then I expect a good analysis from either of them.
I wonder what bro makes of it.
I'll give it a good ol 9/10 because it does do some awesome stuff and my personal bias shouldn't have an effect on its actual quality. The show is good, the story is good, it's simply not my kind of thing.
P.S
Aliens are red herrings bro.
Don't even consider them.
Gonna watch DRRR Season 2 next since after Lain I need something a touch more simple. Also I think I've covered most, if not all, the good "complex" shows out there.
Proxy
Lain
Paranoia Agent
Eva
Am I missing on anything else? I'll need to re-watch Paranoia Agent some time. I'm a little weary with these kinds of anime, so I'd prefer to get recommendations from you guys instead of stumbling into them.
The Dub's finished this week so might as well start.
Also, what's with the walls?
Is that building made of noodles?
Don't make fun of Togashi's actual good art!

Hehe, sorry I did forget.
Maybe I should change my tactics with Bakuman and Silver Spoon and recommend the manga.
It's less intimidating, especially on the Bakuman side and you'll have an easier time. Silver Spoon is a long story and starts off slow, any introductory anime will need to be around 24 episodes to give you the right feel for it and those first 12 episodes won't cut it.
The only reason I recommend Bakuman's anime is because they cut this really awful arc before the finale. Plus there's some awesome after-credits that wrap up things nicely.

I wonder that too.
Will probably finish it tomorrow and I've kinda talked a tiny bit about every episode with Ani so I'm only partially confused. Lose attention for half a second and you might aswell rewatch the last 5 min to get back on the track

Yeah, that's why I considered the dub. I can process information easier with a dub than with a sub.
But then the dub was terrible since it never translated the text bits that come up in the middle.
The themes are easy to pick on though, it's simply the narrative that will keep your mind on point.
The structure is everywhere, as in, it intentionally tries to mislead you I think.
The starting point is revealed halfway through the narrative with the creation of Protocol 7 and then you have this entire business with the Knights and Tach-whatever, two separate factions wherein the former have very little to do with Lain but the latter is everything.
Heh, same. I actually recommended it to Chewy way back in April when I visited him, or more correctly first to his brother since he is especially interested in anime such as Lain.Anyway, if Chris or Chewin get into it, then I expect a good analysis from either of them.
I don't want to put words in their mouths but I can't see Chewin enjoying it as much as Chris. This is coming from my experience from seeing what they like/dislike.
But I'm a terrible judge of character. I actually think Geth is a good guy!
Le gasp!
Uhm... But yeah, Lain is certainly an experience I think every anime fan should watch at least ONCE in their lives. An hour after it and I'm watching this series of informative videos that are basically putting into words what I picked up in the anime.
So I'll certainly rewatch it, one day.
Like I said, it's certainly an awesome show that packs a lot of philosophical questions as well as important messages into 13 episodes, which is very few considering the depth of said questions. I'd just wish the narrative itself, as in, the frame where these themes belong to wasn't as deliberately convoluted.
This is why I prefer Ghost in the Shell's format or Proxy's.
Lain does absolutely work within the area in which I know Chris has history of enjoying shows/games etc
They brought back Steve Blum for DRRR!
Funimation are on point.
Lain does absolutely work within the area in which I know Chris has history of enjoying shows/games etc
Include Shoji Meguro and he might marry it.
I should rewatch Lain to see how it stands up to my original watching which was many years ago.
I don't think you'll be left dissapointed.
It certainly is a brilliant watch and accomplishes a lot.
But it's simply my personal biases and preferences interfering with my overall impressions.
Perhaps I enjoy things far more straight forward and to the point. Lain's structure itself is a puzzle you have to piece together, so if you're not paying attention then you're fcuked xD
So yeah, I did enjoy it, I don't want to give the impression of 'wtf was dis shyt that sooked!' But between Ergo Proxy or Lain give me Proxy any day.
Plus that ending is so damned depressing, I don't give af if it's bitter sweet. It's just plain ol' sad xD
ETA:
And yeah get back to REINHARD VON PANTYDROPPER!
Second ETA for SIm, play TW3 ya pleby.
Also Lain>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Ergo Proxy.

I should really get started back on LotGH. I'm a slowpoke to start it but I know once I get back into it I'll find it an easy thing to watch through.
@Puddi
Yes my midlife forum identity crisis has ended. I am just an Isi at heart it seems.
No matter what name you bear or what you do, you'll always be an Isi

Yeah, that anime was a bit confusing and I watched it all in one sitting. It's still a great show though.
What did you think of Golden Time? I bet the ending really surprised you. I couldn't help, but feel sympathetic for the antagonist which is rare for me.
Fred Jones Rider, there is a ghost on the last page of the "Do Ghosts Exist" thread and I feel like you should do something about it, because I'm scared. ![]()
yesssssss. based Toguro!!!!!
It's good to see that there are people beside the "toxic masulinity" woman that make reviews for FSN UBW and make a good one at that.
The review is also somewhat interesting because the reviewer hasn't watched FZ or read the VN yet but despite that he seems to have a good grasp from Shirou from just this episode.
Excellent review. A good read.
Makes me really appreciate the episode even more.
