Thanks for the recommendations, guys!

Will do in watching Gundam for a while. Might be a good idea to stray from DBZ and new releases. I've been a bit bored lately. :D

Anyone still remember that gloriously insane classic, Project A-ko?

Can't say that I do. Care to elaborate? (from your description, sounds just like stuff I'd enjoy )

Imagine an action based parody anime that, to a certain extent, takes itself seriously and has SOOO many injokes about anime and western movies and comics that you cannot spot them all in just one viewing.  Image IPB

Sounds like a hybrid of Dragon Ball and Lucky Star (edit: or Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, or Genshiken perhaps). :D

Eyeshield 21 is really good in manga. I have doubts about the anime though... Is it really worth it? (btw, I read a web-release where the very start was skimmed - so it seemed to start off with tempo already - and I really enjoyed filling in the gaps, so to say. I don't get that a lot, and have found myself bothered by many spoilerish or simply downgrading and over-explanatory intros. Zetman had one as well, if I remember correctly).

here's the link to where I started the manga:
http://www.mangaread.../chapter-1.html

And later off, when downloaded a full-"quality" version, I was quickly disappointed by how much the beginning catered the lazy viewer, in contrast to how I read it. Also, the main is a bit of a whimp in the beginning - and it contrasts too much with the later half of the first chapter, in my opinion.

Does someone have recommendations on the sort of manga where I can fill the gaps, so to say, and gets thrown into some addicting life, right away?

Planetes is a good one, takes the near future and shows how humanity will have to deal with the incredible amount of trash we put in our atmosphere, and the company (mainly the fun characters) that do the work.

Its beautifully animated, and the characters still stick with me today.

Amazing anime. Love it.
Altough Tanabe was utterly irritating with her...girlishens/naivite at time.

I have never really seen all of the anime, I was just talking about the manga.:?

And could you explain a bit better on what type of manga you want to read? I am having a hard time trying to understand what you mean by "fill the gaps" and "addicting life". Do you mean a manga that is already deep in it's story, that has some flashbacks to fill in the gaps?

It's an older one. There's an original OAV (which is really the best one), and a few sequels that are overall not as good. I think "Uncivil Wars" is the one I found watchable. It's kind of an alternate universe retelling.

Main character's a spirited redhead with inexplicable strength and speed (I seem to recall it being implied that she was the child of Wonder Woman and Superman), who's ALWAYS late for school. Most of the jokes are about one scifi trope or another. I think that it helped to inspire Ranma 1/2, although it's kind of a shirttail relation.

Oh dangit, I meant manga not anime.

Something with similar pacing, characters, the overall (though I did not like the main in the very first few pages of the mange).

Cast in the name of God, ye not guilty

And Norman kicks ass as well

Despite having gotten into this show far too late to really know what's going on, I enjoy it nonetheless. I mean really, is there anything that Steve Blum can't do that's not inherently awesome?

Also, when I first started watching it I thought that Roger Smith was Phoenix Wright

They looked incredibly similar.

At the start One Piece, D.Gary-man and Soul Eater all have similar pacing to Eyeshield 21. The characters? some are like Eyeshield 21's cast and some are not, but all 3 series have a great set of characters.

In the overall sense? One Piece and Soul Eater are the closest to what you are looking for, but that doesn't mean you should pass up on D.Gray-man. I would also say you should look up Slam Dunk, it's got a slice of life feel to it, with great drama and comedy. it also has awsome characters.

@The Ethereal Writer Redux They only look-alike cuz they both have classic anime hair.

^^ I'll go with Slam Dunk as soon as I'm finished with Eyeshield, to fill the sports and slice of life gap. And before that I'll try to cast aside my prejudices and look into One Piece.

But for now I'm obsessed with Berserk. I've of course watched the anime, but that didn't strike me as a brilliant work of genius. The manga does so however...

LOL!  Except Roger Smith always wears black.  Image IPB  Glad to see this anime getting a shout-out from somebody.  It certainly is a classic in my collection.

After the third episode of Jormungand it feels a bit stale.

The author's not so good into psychology as to paint the characters interesting, and has a sort of mainstream-feeling light-heartedness to Jormungand, in whole.

My teacher in Japanese class asked for recommendations in films (or anime) about Japanese culture, and more specifically Western vs Japanese thematics' (not wars, but rather cultural stuff - like some westerner going to Japan to work or something like that). Would you guys know anything about this? Only thing I could think of was "awkward" Japanese flicks and even more "awkward" anime. Samurais seem awkward, for example.

edit: I now remembered two titles: a German film called Cherry Blossoms and, of course, Lost in Translation.

I don't know if they're specific enough though...
