I don't have any issues with the swords.

It was stupid in Deen's version, because Archer used swords from his visinity, which made you just question where the hell he ever saw a sword like that. But in Ufotable's case, he used projection, and considering Shirou had been deflecting regular swords with ease, all I kept wondering about why Archer didn't use bigger swords earlier for bigger impact. Plus, nice visual effect they had.

Pretty okay episode of Arlsan but...

 

The hypocrisy of hegemonic religion isn't really something I need to be told, but it's centring the Lustanian faction around the ins and outs of it.

 

Arslan as a character isn't as... uhhh... nuanced? As he was in the films? It makes his development way too predictable and the scenario they put him in was plain-ass stupid.

lolwtf especially given the context and the fact that y'know... HE'S IN HIDING!

 

FMAB's humour isn't really appropriate for the story. It doesn't feel right. She should have stuck to keeping it as slight as possible and not full-on 'cartoon-face' blasting Elric.

And how they are foreshadowing the obvious consequences of their largest goal (banning slavery) will be interesting to see played out. Slavery is a huge part of their culture and economy, and so far they have taken into effect the consequences of some political decisions.

The sword fight at the end was really well animated, so I'm glad that they'll keep a certain quality when it comes to choreography and stuff.

 

When it comes to politics, it's not exploring anything outside religion, so that's a shame. I can't really recall what the movies initially explored, but I think it's the same ol' stuff with the addition of slavery given that the movies move at a faster pace.

 

Speaking of which.

 

Yes, I understand it's going very slow. So that might put of some people. I'm glad they are though, since the movies moved so quick you weren't really aware of time and distance and blegh, couldn't care less about anyone in it.

In any case, enjoying Vinland Saga. Glad that the manga has done some proper research on the viking era, since it has already dismissed some normal inconsistencies that most series tend to fall in with viking themed shows and such. Plus I'm digging the art style.

Because Archer and Shirou's mage origin is that of a sword.

 

When they use projection magic to create something that isn't a sword it will take a lot more mana.

Because Shirou/EMIYA's Origin and Element  is Sword. Both Origin and Element determine what the magus can do., As Rin and Luvia(Rins rival at the Mage Association) have  all the elements, their magical ablity is higher then any other magus in Zero/SN (Illya only dwarfs them because of her mana) Kiri's origin was severing and binding, hence why Kiri's origin bullets had that effect on magic circuits and Shiki being Void, it made her mystic eyes of death perception far stronger then normal. Because Shirou/EMIYA share the same origin and element (which is very rare) this stops them from leaving amateur status as a magus, but this also allows their unique form of magic to keep growing which is extremely strong. Having Avalon in their body for so long is part of the reason too.
