The thing is, with Gantz, we're not supposed to anything. There's not one character in the role of the relatable, likeable and agreeable fellow. We're not supposed to feel like we want to be a character in it.

Given that understanding, it's most brilliant, twisted, nightmarish and crude stuff straight out of a psychoanalysis hypnosis session mixed in with drugs. Much truth about the world to be felt there. :happy:

But honest, I've not read the manga, and the art 'n some panels do seem so-so. Yet the anime is, despite its poor budget and very risque B-movie messiness really cool and sort of deep. Touching even.

You've not once felt it was a relevant idea that man is messed up and often more disattached and stupid in regards to his surrounding "others" - you'know, animals and nature for example (all sort of minorities, or "strangers" for another example)? Moreso, the primal attitude of man so very often shows up in real messed up colors to it - killing, maiming, hurting his fellow men et al et cetera... With emotions so sharp and alluring to be held, yet utterly irrational and twisted. Yet often it's even more crazed - one's psychopathic tendencies can come about by knowledge of the rational, of the "soulless" so to say. By means of a "helping" science.

But the thing is, most probable in a setting like Gantz would be Fear. And that's pretty darn well and convincingly depicted. Immersive. Doesn't matter if it's a stupid notion to have in real life, the fear of strangers others, of existence, and of losing one's existence or values seems a real powerful concept 'n all.

Gantz is over the top fun, like a Quintin Tarrentino movie. It was never supposed to be anything more than that.

Gantz is good at what it's supposed to do.



Also, the aliens are right, humans ARE trash and we DO suck big time as a species. We are worse than the animals in the wild because we do horrible crap while we should know better.
