Their waists look painful to disney princesses levels.

Don't worry, you have female characters like these as well.

Spoiler

Yeah was gonna mention this, but because I'm bias af it wouldn't hold much weight.

But then again I used FMAB too...

LOTGH manages a huge cast of characters where everyone looks different and unique, too.

Only like three dudes I would say 'look the same.'

Kesler, that silent dude and Lutz

Listen to this if you haven't already. It is quite enlightening.

Well yeah xD

I could also mention Gintama that despite EVERYONE having the same faces (you can literally swap Hijikata and Gintoki's hair and that's it, they're them) each character looks like his own.

So tons of examples around.

*snip*

Shinpachi has the most boring af design of like, anything I've seen but you could spot that mofo from a mile away.

It is made funnier since the show points out this as well, as it often does.

Yup. The anime makes that even clearer with her sound effects whenever her breasts move.

The series take on drama is certainly quite prominent, since basically every single arc has some sort of dramatic backdrop for the audience to feel emotionally engaged to what the current story is trying to portray. That is not to say that it is a bad thing however, since the series' focus is not simply on its drama, but just an additional component in its story telling, which is made even better since how well they are constructed.

As for the art style, well that is largely subjective. I can see why one would find it working against it, just as you find it to be ridiculous since their expressions during particularly sad moments are so "exaggerated". But I think that is limiting oneself simply to one end of the spectrum, since Oda is pretty darn talented in using the artwork in his favor, since the entirety of the series is quite "grandiose". He isn't trying to portray it as "realistic" but more trying to capitalize on it to work for his favor. It is rather cartoonish in style yes, but thanks to that it opens avenues for more creativity for his works, be it about characters, islands, equipments, powers, etc. The majority of the characters are quite distinctive, since Oda focuses a lot on facial and body expressions / proportions, clothing, themes, atmosphere, and more. It might take some time to get used to it, but once you do you can't help but appreciate it and see why it works for OP.

Not sure what you mean with your Tom & Jerry comparison, since the series does have its fair share of more "impactful" moments, which aren't restricted to character deaths. But if you think the series suffers for its fights simply because people don't die as often as they should, then I can't hold it against you.

Calling BS.

Mixing opposites does not work well when you try to achieve only one, that is common sense.

You can mix sweet and sour and still expect the dish to be sweet (unless you sense of taste is seriously borked).

Neither can you mix comedy and drama at the same time and expect it to be dramatic.

If I go to your moms funeral in a clown costume, that will get you to laugh, right? Right? If you don't laugh, the problem MUST be your limited humor.

OP works best when it's not trying to be dramatic.

It's not that the art style is bad (still not fond of it myself), it's that is bad for drama they way it is done.

I just finished up the first Kara no Kyoukai movie, Overlooking View. The TL;DR is basically afhaihag yes yes, I need more of this. <3 It's an instance where I have not read the LNs yet (looking into how far along translations might be) so I can't comment on how it fares as an adaptation, but standalone for me, it's fantastic. The fact that the story doesn't play out in chronological order is something I can really appreciate. especially considering it does set up an In Medias Res opening (and if you've read any of my gush books, you'd know that's a storytelling technique I *adore*), so getting back around to the full circle moment was pretty amazing.

I'm thinking once I cover all 7 movies, I might rewatch them and work out a good timeline in my head. Considering it's the Nasuverse, I know others have already done this sort of thing but hell, I like putting my brain to this sort of thing and really digging around. The music is absolutely fantastic too, color me seriously impressed as far as how well the soundtrack and visual style works in setting the atmosphere.

I'm not sure if I'm going to jump into the second film yet cause I have some stuff to get done before a job interview today, but hnnnnnnngh yes, I need more of this. <3

Oh and because it's the 10th here now, happy birthday Angel! I hope the day treats you well. :3

It would be amusing if we still would be here after 40+ years or so, still trying to get each other to watch certain anime.

DJEbYAk.jpg Milan: "Nay, my Hitler moustached pal. I haven't had the chance to watch cute, teenage looking girls working hard as of late."

30YW9RR.jpg?1 Chewin: "That truly pains my heart. Everyone should watch girls working hard that sweat drops from their body."

DJEbYAk.jpg Milan: "It would be a true blessing, indeed. Would make this frail body feel so much lighter. Have you started with Cowboy Bepop?"

30YW9RR.jpg?1 Chewin: "Nah, too busy watching Sword Art Online Season 69."

Right? Shokugeki fans got the game f*cked up. Her cousin is way better than she is. And Shinomiya should be higher.

Sorry, but all I am seeing is you trying to force your statement as a fact with a comparison that is mixing apples with oranges. It is evident that you are not in favor of the series direction, but calling it bad since you don't find it to fit into your viewpoints, I would hardly state that is something as you call "common sense".

Seniles have a tendency to watch all matters of crap on TV.

I doubt I will be any different.

I've watched all the Kara No Kyoukai movies and I have yet to read the LN's. I really enjoyed all of the movies beside the 6th one that one wasn't that great, 5 was amazing though, 10/10 kinds of amazing!

Oh yeah did you know that the OST is done by Yuki Kajiura? From what I remember you really like her stuff.

Thanks Puzzle  :).

As an anime only Shokugeki watcher the only reason I like seeing Erina on screen is because Souma always manages to make a fool out of her (and that's always amusing). As a character however I don't really find her that interesting as of now.

I prefer Megumi and Meat for now.

5 is by the far the best, more so because it deals with The Root, counter guardians and Alaya. Plus Shiki and Araya at last fighting was amazing.
