Ugh... Jitsu wa Watashi wa anime adaptation starting in a month. Mind if I rant a bit here? Screw it, gonna post it anyway.
 
So, I love the manga version of Jitsu wa Watashi wa. It's a romantic school comedy with a harem, yeah, it's a "secret vampire story", yeah... but what sets it apart from so many other series is that the priorities in both the writing and art style are
 
Comedy >>> (drama/romance, the few moments it shows up) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> otaku appeal
 
And the comedy is excellently written. It subverts and twists tropes constantly, throwing tropey "obstacles" in the plot to seemingly to drive the protagonists apart, but every damn time, the obstacle gets resolved in one chapter through an anticlimax! It is also not afraid to turn the love interests into the biggest clowns on earth in front of the protagonist, so much so that I could make a giant collage of the facepalm pictures in this series! He doesn't even notice how the female lead always has a bit of cleavage showing because the story is constantly ridiculing every character's attempts of sex appeal.
 
It has a very School Rumble vibe to it in a lot of ways. Other times it's rather Gintama.
 
So when I saw this picture, I was a little shocked.

 
This screams "otaku appeal before comedy" to me. It can never ever ever replicate the amazing expressions, the moments of comically overblown seriousness, and sometimes even dark or twisted humor that the series has
