Sorry, but all I am seeing is you trying to force your statement as a fact with a comparison that is mixing apples with oranges. It is evident that you are not in favor of the series direction, but calling it bad since you don't find it to fit into your viewpoints, I would hardly state that is something as you call "common sense".
And just because you like it doesn't make it "not common sense".
Mixing opposites when trying to achive only one (for example, sweet) is a stupid move.
An exception to the rule does not invalidate the rule.
You CAN mix opposites - but one has to be very careful as it backfires 99% of cases. But in such case, you generally switch.
Take FMA - it has comedic moments and dramatic moments, but the art changes to fit them.

I finally got past episode 1 of Hunter X Hunter... been a busy year. >.>
It definitely fits into the "Enjoying it much for than expected" Category. The characters playing off of each other makes for plenty of hilarity, and a bit of tension during the "test". A very clever episode, at that. 
Afraid that's about as verbose as I can get so far on the series, need to work on finishing up what I can.

Mmm, HxH has up to the the end of Heavens arena arc managed to alternate between comedy and dramatic situations far above what I could expect. They've been able to mix these opposites so that the changes feel very natural and that's something that I value highly.

Everyone has to be able to cook. Nevermind that I'm pretty sure this was alluding to the lifestyle inevitably leading to a rather volumous appearances as opposed to being an affirmation of outdated gender roles. As in: can't cook something healthy, isn't doing lots of workout and is going to primarily eat sweet/fatty stuff -> fat.
