Impulse is slowly becoming more of a Perv than Sim.
But at least he's not pervy towards Chihaya, so he's better than Sim in that regard.

Yes.
And just because you like it doesn't make it "not common sense".
Mixing opposites when trying to achive only one (for example, sweet) is a stupid move.
An exception to the rule does not invalidate the rule.
You CAN mix opposites - but one has to be very careful as it backfires 99% of cases. But in such case, you generally switch.
Take FMA - it has comedic moments and dramatic moments, but the art changes to fit them.
Imagine Huges funeral with Edward making this face:
Not the same, is it?
No Lotion, you are merely criticizing it based on your personal tastes, and not on some quoted fact. What Oda does with his art-style is using exaggerated elements to properly convey individual's emotions, which is not restricted to sadness, but also happiness, disgust, anger, fear, etc. That is why you will have individuals crying like it is raining, laughing and having their mouths widen double in size, getting scared and having their eyes open wide, and so forth.
According to your logic, specifically during emotional moments, it ruins the scenes since their facial expressions are so exaggerated in style, and due to that no one will be able to take them seriously. Except you only have to do a quick google search, and you will find dozens upon dozens of threads of people getting emotionally invested during certain critical moments, even when people look "ridiculous" when they are crying.
And it is not like OP is devoid by "normality" in its emotional scenes.
But yes, the majority of it looks like this:
But the point still stands, it doesn't remove the emotional impact for people, simply because you think that it does for you.
No!
More is always better.

I don't know how many people have cried over THAT death.
You know.
THE One Piece death.
Can't google the manga without it coming up.
I don't have waifus.
Only female characters that I like, which I use the term for every now and then for sh*ts and giggles.
