Pretty sure Zero viewers get their fair share of it working as a direct sequel, with the anime original content. Saber is the same character. Just because she doesn't do anything in UBW, and the anime does have scenes, doesn't mean she is a different character. Because she isn't one in UBW.

That JoJo episode! Mmmm that Dio! This is JoJo when it's the most fun to watch, it's a great pay off after following the characters for quite a few episodes and it's a treat to have the final showdown be this spectacular.

Yet she had basically zero screen time in UBW VN and some shoe horned "I understand you" Shirou, which makes only sense if one has read Fate route. She is the same character, but UBW VN doesn't bother to show her inner self, who is quite emotional, because you have already read it. UBW and Fate Saber aren't different characters. The anime showcases this and one of the good things for the adaptation done right.
Saber is more emotional in Fate, Saber is more ruthless and serious in UBW, Saber is all of this during HF.
Ufotables UBW is simply moe and an innocent lilly.

The amusing thing is I don't hate Saber at all. It just looks that way because I am completely disappointed with what Ufotable has done with her, (same with alot of the characters) I could write a book on Shirou and how bad they screwed him up and his relationship with Rin which is extremely meh in this adaption.
I don't hate any character in SN, I do hate Kariya, Zero Lancer and Zero Saber tho.
