If there is anything that should be adapted into an anime, it's Asura's Wrath. Why a sequel hasn't been made yet, I will not understand.

 

 

I mean, the game isn't really so much a "game" as it's an interactive anime already (I'm fairly certain that was actually the intent), but holy crap, anyone who has played the game would know how bat****insane and over the top it is. I can't think of any actual animes with fight scenes that are as OTT and as elegantly choreographed as it, not even the second half of Gurren Lagann. It helps that Asura is one of the most absurdly overpowered characters in all of fiction. Think the Incredible Hulk, but as a Super Saiyan, and he can punch back blue stars with his bare hands, and in his ultimate form, he's hundreds of times the size of galaxies.

 

Asura's Wrath is pretty cool, I agree, maybe a bit too over the top for me but certainly interesting.

Sword bent,  strikes are not perfect. That makes strikes non even. Not even, means there's a gap. Gap means  any servant at this level can dodge it with skill. Understand?

An enjoyable, but ultimately a rather disappointing one for me. Despite packing a lot of action and some visual splendor, I found that the episode lacked substance of any real, coherent form and felt more like a build up for the inventible conclusion. Well two particular reasons--or characters to be specific--are what I'm finding the problem with, which is Assassin and Gilgamesh.

 

Assassin is personally for me the least interesting out of all the Servants in the war (possibly even out of all the ones I'm familiar with). His design is unoriginal and dull, his mannerism, backstory and overall purpose are boring as well. He merely exists as an obstacle that the characters (or more accurately Saber) has to face. The only impact he had here was that he was still around, which is basically it. Of course, considering that his whole "interiority" is hollow from the start, not actually being Sasaki Kijiro and only being summoned to guard the temple, his motivation is understandable, but due to that he doesn't add anything significant outside of it to the narrative or Saber. This is a bit of a reminiscent to Fate/Zero, where Saber faced Lancelot and added something impactful, but here in F/SN, nothing is achieved and is disappointing.

 

Gilgamesh, while ever the entertaining figure with his overbearing personality and having the show further contextualizing his 'master-slave' morality is enjoyable, he is proving to be a rather lackluster final adversary. He as well seems to only be there as a last obstacle that our main trio have to face, without adding much to the central narrative. Outside of Gil directly opposing Shirou's pivotal ideal of saving everyone, there isn't much that I am seeing Gil has to offer to the table, which is a shame when we had characters like Caster and Archer previously stand out more prominently. Considering that the primary points of this show has been about Shirou's ideals and growth, it all seems to have been put to a halt ever since the death of Archer, and giving that Gil's opposition is so bland and only existing on a superficial level for Shirou, makes me quite frustrated. I expected more from this climax.

 

Don't know what the last episode has in store, but my expectations--for the first time with this show--are quite low.
