Frankly, the whole thing would feel even more fake if everything perfectly fit some narrative goal or internal conflict.

EDIT: Yeah, caught up with Vinland Saga. I enjoyed the shift in tone. Despite being more narrow in scale, it was far more personal and quite an important factor for Thorfinn's (and to some extent Canute) development, which I expected it would be and I am glad that it delivered. Perhaps a bit too long if you ask me, but not something to make a fuzz about. Though I can still understand the frustration.

Bigger in scale and less personal would be Kingdom. Lots of power struggles and conflict with a touch of intrigue on the side. Nothing really political, but if Bro is anyone to go by, the battles are planned superbly.
