Have always as well had a liking towards villains, ever since I was a kid. I mean what's not to like when their lines were hilarious, their costumes were badass, they had all kinds of cool weapons at their disposal, sometimes some awesome songs, and so forth. Of course my requirements for what I enjoy in villains has changed throughout the years, but they always had a soft spot on my part.

Well, sure.

It's pretty obvious they love each other.

But.

Not in that way.

As in... that fan art.

I don't look for it. Just search Komgui and King on google images and they pop up out of nowhere.

Another reason to love LOTGH.

They are technically each other's own antagonists.

LotGH handles it really well from what I've seen. Maybe the later seasons focus on more specific antagonists but so far a lot has come down to perspective and who's side you're on.

Although a lot of the antagonists in S1 were just really stupid. Glad they got weeded out early though :D

Yep, both are important for driving a story forward well. For some reason I just enjoy a good antagonist more. It's sort of rare for me to find protagonists I *really* like

Saki, Guts, Madoka in some aspects. Usually I just find them average.

Good antagonist > most protagonists for me too.

I like Killua a lot in HxH and #bestgirl Leorio.

But damn.

King just blew by balls away.

This. They tend to be so much more entertaining and well not always I find they tend to make much more interesting grey characters when handled properly.

Hahaha S1 is the worst for that reason.

The incompetence of some generals was outstanding.

<3 Have to say it warms my heart knowing that we have this little club of being drawn to well done antagonists. Not that I'm exactly surprised mind you, cause I've rambled at the lot of you in this conversation enough to know we're often on the same page there.

ETA: I definitely do intend to start HxH at some point in the near future. But that'll come once Nasuverse Sensei has been appeased. :P

I realize I posted Ginko art instead of the gif I had intended.

And now it's a little too late to change it...

It was a bit entertaining and sad at the same time. Sad to see smarter characters die from their higher ups stupidity. It did help set up the main players rise for power throughout season 1 though. Glad it didn't last longer

Some of my favorite anime/LN have great protagonists.

Kazuki from Utsuro, Shirou from FSN and Hikigaya from Oregairu.

Madoka? She's probably the Madoka girl I personally liked the least. I found every other girl in the anime a lot more interesting besides the Rebellion loli.

I think Madoka is vastly underrated personally. Well not my favorite character I found her quite well done. I'd go into it more but I'm a bit tired ATM :P can't form my thoughts as well. Sorry

I started with the original Dragon Ball and later Pokemon, probably why I didn't get into more anime until right before college.

Same. Then I got introduced to One Piece and Bleach.

Only last year that I started broadening my horizons with other stuff. God bless that I clicked that Youtube recommendation of Spice & Wolf.

I have noticed in the past that I act more in line with the character of whoever my avi is.

I qct pretty much the same with whatever avatar I use.

Then again, I basically only use Xanatos.

That ED was also pretty good. All the HxH ED's are pretty good though.

And for some reason they decided to have (almost) the exact same OP for the entirety of the show.

Guess the team really liked it.

Why would you do that?

You'd be worse than Griffith.

Keep Ginko.

Everybody loves Ginko.

I still love how Oberstein took control of the situation after Reinhard lost his plot.

It's always hit and miss with that guy.

But I absolutely love him.

Thing is, especially in anime, your protagonists are idealistic youths whereas your (good) antagonists feel far more human.

However, you do have seinen that changes this. I love protagonists like Musashi, Ginko (mushishi,) Guts and Yang Wenli.

It's funny I say Yang though, since the man is as obstinate and idealistic as freaking Shirou sometimes. But the way he's written doesn't give off this absurd sense of justice, righteousness or whatever you want to call it. The man is idealistic, yes, but he's a great many other things too, all of which blend nicely into a well rounded, very human character.

Saying this I really like Gintoki as well. He's probably my favourite protagonist from a Jump manga with maybe Luffy coming on second. He does things for his own reasons and doesn't really need some motivating force (i,e let's bring Sauske back) to do it.

Utsuro anime never.

Which might be a good thing since some scene will be awfully hard to translate into a visual medium. Still, Japan should should be ashamed.

Nothing says side characters can't be amazing.

Sim: That's exactly why I realized over the last few years that seinen are definitely more up my alley. That's not not to say I can't enjoy a good shonen as well (especially since I grew up on it and shoujo series), I just tend to find my my brain tickled more as a whole with seinen protagonists and such. Mental stimulation while not always 100% needed, usually does enhance my appreciation of a series if I have to step back and think for a while. Hence why I give the Yakuza arc in BL so much love, cause while I started the series with the intent to have some fun, said arc tickled my brain in in such wonderful ways.

Also yeah, apologies for derp typos and such lately, folks. It's been too damn hot here to run my my pc and auto correct has has a mind of its own. :P
