So I have a question for everyone.

What was the one anime that got you into watching anime? And I don't mean the first anime you had ever seen because it's likely that you may not have known it was an anime when you first saw it.

For me it was The Soultaker, I don't know what it was about that show, but after I finished watching it I remember saying "I should watch more anime" after that I realized most of the shows I watched as a kid like Digimon, Sailor Moon, and Yu Yu Hakusho were edited anime.

After that I watched whatever anime came on TV. I think that's why my taste in anime is kind of weird, I'm still not sure how I watched every episode of Colorful and half of Mirage of Blaze with out realizing what type of shows they were.

Anyway what was the one anime that got you into watching anime?
Also if it was a manga that got you into both anime and manga what was that manga?

Cardcaptor Sakura, the manga and the anime.

I had the first volume as a kid and just thought it was a black and white comic, didn't know it was from Japan. Then I watched the anime on TV and my older sister told me they edited it (and I could tell the episode order was messed up) and other anime I was watching. That made me want to see the original versions.

And then we got those old fansub VHSs of like all the anime I was watching and some I had never seen before. A bit later I even bought a official uncut Cardcaptor Sakura subbed VHS from Nelvanna. It was awesome. Holy crap I am just looking it up now, and you can even still buy it.

So yeah that (and my sister) more or less got me into the whole manga/anime scene.

Just finished watching Dawn of the Seeker.

Nice animation and quality...but it was so horribly, painfully predictable.
Also, mages seem to favor melee combat with their staff rather than to actually use magic.

Truth be told, it was the music video to Wamdue Project's "King Of My Castle" the moment I saw it on MTV. Right after the song the MTV host of the show mentioned it was from a movie and I just had to see it. It was the 1999 version, so I was just eleven years old, but damn did I pester my parents with wanting to see that movie ... only to find out, you know, that it's an old one and not available where we lived as VHS (good old days *sigh*) or any other way.

Naturally, as it is with eleven year olds, I eventually forgot about the whole thing, until a couple years later, when by pure chance, I stumbled on the same video whilst zapping around the TV. It immediately clicked within me and me, now halfway familiar with the ways of the internet, did some search and FINALLY found the anime, then watched it.

Funny how the universe works, isn't it?

There was actually two animes that got me into anime. My family had comcast, so I was randomly flipping through the OnDemand feature. I ended up in the anime section on a stroke of luck. I ended up coming across a show called xxxHolic. It was a really random title, and I was expecting an Adult Swim-esque show. It ended up being a pretty neat series and the OnDemand service introduced me to the concept of one episode a week. The same day I watched Holic, I decided to look through the Adult Swim section and I came across a show called Bleach. Again, the show title was so random that I had to give it a chance. Well, the rest is history.

Hm...many of the old ones I didn't associate with anime... titles like Saint Seiya, Transformers, Fist of the Northstar, Saber Rider, City Hunter and many others.

After that period I did watch catoons occasiuonaly - mostly cartoon networks stuff like Buggs Bunny and Dexters Lab.

The one that got me into anime again?

Vision of Escaflowne.
I was fliping trough channels around midnight looking for porn, and there it was on MTV...the first episode too, just starting. The intro was interesting so I stayed on that channel. Even up watching the entire series, following it like crazy.
After that...cowboy Beebop.

And after that...the entire world of anime was open to me again. I re-watchedhhte old series and started hutning for new ones.

For me it was Vampire Princess Miyu. I had watched some anime before, Dragon Ball, a few Albator episodes, Astro boy, and some show about a giant robot formed from lesser robots/vehicules (can't remember the name, can barely remember anything about it), but they never really hooked me or made me want to see more.

Miyu was just so different from every other animated show I had seen before. Well, different from pretty much everything I had seen before. After watching it, I couldn't help but start looking for other refreshing and unusual (at least back then I found them unusual) anime. I ended up finding quite a few.

My childhood anime watching was the dubbing of many series like:
The Arabian Nights: Adventures of Sinbad
Transformers
Robin Hood no Daibōken
Serendipity the Pink Dragon
Mito Kōmon

and few others.

My professional Anime watching began with 'Legend of Galactic Heroes'. Then 'One Piece', 'Berserk' and finally Dragon Ball! Earlier with some single animated movies.

I just watched whatever was on Toonami. DBZ, Outlaw Star, Rurouni Kenshin, Tenchi Muyo, Gundam, Yu Yu Hakusho, Sailor Moon? I don't remember if that was on Toonami. Big O, Cowboy Bebop. Most of those I wasn't able to watch from start to finish because my attention span and because maybe they didn't show the whole series on Toonami, I dunno.

Then they canceled Toonami and the world was a dark, dark place. Aside from my friend being obsessed with Evangelion and convincing me to watch it online (with him <.<) I haven't watched much anime until recently.

I'm thinking of picking up Ninja Scroll. Should I check out the movie first or watch the episode based one?

For me, it was Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.  It was on tv but I couldn't remember exactly how or why I started watching it.  I didn't even completely understand what it was about when I first saw it.  A few years later, I stumbled upon the GITS: SAC page on tv tropes and decided to re-watch it, and also 2nd gig.  After that, I started looking for other anime and then started reading manga.

Before GITS: SAC, I've seen Rurouni Kenshin and Ayashi no Ceres (the first animes that I've watched subbed), and also older ones such as The LIttle Prince Cedie, Princess Sarah and others (can't remember the titles).

Just my opinion and treat it as such.  Both are fairly good yet "meh" titles and both are more or less the same minus of course the movie is shorter, overall both seem to have either a lukewarm reception or a I hate/love it. Start with the movie on the virtue its shorter, if you like it then watch the TV series.
