Oh dear, oh my!

 

Lets get the episode of this weeks Oregairu out of the way first.

There's always a risk of the last episode being a disappointment just because it need to do more than what the other episodes need to do and this season Oregairu did tackle this task with a strong conviction and no fear. They knew what this episode was to be about and they knew they could nail all the essential parts. They were right, absolutely loved this final epsiode for this season since it is the end point of so many things that started this season with the whole trust and genuine being the central theme. The last conversation of the season took this and ended this part of that story and they are in a really good spot for what may come in the future. Trust and genuine will remain an important thing in Oregairu.

Yui also once again prove to be the one force that is actually holding this trio together. Neither Hiki or Yukinon are able to be that person and without Yui things would fall apart fast! She's such a great girl and both Hiki and Yukinon should be honored to be able to have her as their friend. She pushed things forward in this episode and status quo has been removed, not by much but change is happening. Great choice of soundtrack aswell for this episode, just the right sound levels for it to be easy to hear but not for it to be central.

 

Now to the part about the season as a whole. Did pick it up after about 2 episodes to fill up a spot so that I would have decent number of shows to watch and absolutely didn't expect it to be a contender for show of the season. What the second season of Oregairu is first and foremost an improvement on all fronts. The first season was good but not amazing or making me feel that I would die if I didn't get more. The second season is that, it's amazing and I need more. The storytelling is several steps above with just better usage of the tools that allow them to tell the story. The visuals are vastly improved and make the first season look rather unimpressive. Really liking the abilites of the artists to craft much more living images with better colours and just being a better way to help the viewer to feel the intended effect. The OST is improved aswell with more tracks that are used in the proper situations to also gain the intended effect. It has been so very obvious all the season that the people working on this show are skilled and that is a very comforting feeling since it remove a lot of concerns about what "might" go wrong. The worst this show had to suffer was a few somewhat rushed episodes and in the grand scheme of things that is a very small issue.

 

Now I left the characters to last and that is because they are what make Oregairu steps above many other shows that try something similar. I'm not only talking about our trio of Hiki, Yui and Yukinon but also the large cast of side characters that all fill a role (Even hands satan) The diversity of the cast is great which do allows a plentiful amount of different situations to happen for the main trio to deal with and grow with. Growth is something that happen in the side cast but is absolutely huge in the trio. They change, develop and become far more diverse characters than who they were when the season started. Hiki has gone from being a nihilist first to instead have it be a large part of him in addition to many new sides of him that were explored this season. He's such a nice guy!

Yui, the heart of the trio show that there are so much more behind that bright happy smile that she face the world with and what that is, you'll find out if you watch the show. WON'T TELL YOU

Yukinon also experience a ton of growth which allow her to form a more interesting personality than the one she original appeared with and the "Ice queen" is so much more than that now. It's almost possible to say that she's a new character, that's the growth that Oregairu season 2 could show and it's something I would love if more shows were able to have. 

 

Now, yes this is my show of the season. It came from nowhere. It developed, it grew and it improved from start to finish. Most well done! Been trying to figure out what score to give it for 3 weeks now and not one step closer to it but it's fighting for high, high scores.

It's obvious they're just using the same ideas/characters and aren't really following the manga.

Some things are better left in the anime and manga world. If a character does something in anime (Like use the 3D maneuver packs in AoT's case) it's fluid and fast while in live action it seemed way to slow. It didn't feel right.
