I would like to give a round of applause to Fate, cause I just finished the epilogue, and was superbly impressed with how they tied everything up together in the final episode. Rin and Shirou were absolutely on point throughout the entire episode, thematically bringing it all together at the end. Music was perfect, as was animation.

 

I am really, REALLY gonna miss this quality of animation.

So Shirou rejects a life with Rin to become hero, essentially becoming Archer, but not as cynical. How exactly does he become one and is this immediately after that night in London?

Other than that, great ending! Had a blast with this anime from start to finish. Next anime that I will watch weekly will be Charlotte. Hope it is good.

What Shirou rejected was the MA because if they ever found out about his magic and RM, he would get a sealing designation and not only would his life be over(you are either imprisoned for good and use your magic for CLock Tower or oyu are experimented on and die), it would impact Rin, that was why Rin was not angry with him. Shirou and Rin do not part ways, they stay with eachother for good.

 

Mages like Waver and Rin are very rare. Majoirty of them  are like Kayneth and Zouken.

The desert scene is pretty much just visual symbolism of the path Shirou is taking. Because Ufotable messed up on the scene, Nasu blogged the script and showed what should have happened. It's a few pages back so i'll just post the nutshell version.

Shirou despite taking the same path as Archer has surpassed him and is still looking hopefully and with determination so there is a strong chance in UBW that he will not become just like Archer thanks to Rin and all the lessons he learned.

 

Overall it's the "happiest" ending Shirou can ever get out of the 6 endings available in SN.
