One thing I will likely never know ... but why on earth have artists such a fascination with long haired warriors?

Any warrior worth his/her salt would tell you long hair only serves as one giant heap of disadvantages is actual combat of any sort. Wind blowing open into your face when you need clear sight, tiedt up hair constricting helmet use, long hair is easily grabbed unless hidden under headgear (which is really hard considering the second point I gave), hair possibly entangling with the environment, and so on and on.

Why always the long hair? Sure I get how it looks better, but once, ONCE I want some realism take place and people having all those problems. Just imagine a protagonist being killed in combat because the bad simply grabbed that mane of hair, or because the hair entangled itself in a bush when they were running away from that monster, or another character dying because the character that was supposed to cover them with their gun couldn't aim at the critical moment because a breeze flung her mane in front of the scope, or a character dying from a would to the hat because they couldn't wear proper head protection ...

Its fiction. Anime, especially. In anime, if it looks cool, it flies. I got no problem with long hair in my fiction. If anything, I want more of it.

Anyway, this is probably what happened after the end of the Yellow trailer-

Anyone excited for WBY?

Is WBY is meaningfully different from RWBY or are you just asking the same question again?

It's hard to complain about the long hair and fancy gowns and such when the combat or style in general are so over-the-top (a clue is when they start ignoring gravity), whether it's anime or otherwise. When the setting is "more realistic" I will be right there complaining too (as already futilely seen in this thread).

Actually I probably wouldn't complain about the long hair though. I am inconsistent like that. Actually it's just not hard for me to take seriously, I never was entirely bought into the suspiciously US military-centric buzz cut supremacy mantra.

Buzz cut is unnecessary. As long as the hair is short enough to not interfere with crucial tasks at any given moment in any given situation, it's fine. You can basically run around with an everyday short to medium length hair cut.

Has anyone here seen the premiere of this?

I did! It was quirky, but it has a pretty good premise. It definitely looks interesting.
I'll be watching it from now on, anyway.

Also... this RWBY is an American 'anime', right?

My hair used to be short as hell. Then I grew it out over the years, and it now flows all the way down my back. I ponytail it when I practice shortblade combat and archery. Works for me. :)

As for WBY, well...Yang went ahead and smothered her little sister. Thats on her. :P

RWBY is Monty Oum's project, so yes, American.

@LP I've always had a feeling that Monty was a smart dude, and that he really wanted to do a serious project that he really could call his own. Do you know where I'll be able to watch this at?

Omfg Monogatari 2nd started strong. Hachikuji sans backpack!!!! And short hair. All of that short hair.

The scene with Senjou and Hanekawa in the abandonned school was pretty surprising, and it's cool to see them focusing on them as friends (what with the shower scene and now attempting to handle an anomaly without Oshino or Araragi :D) I like where this is going.

To move away from the RWBY talk for a second, I finally got to The Breaker: New Waves and Chang is still a sadistic douche, except now he knows martial arts! Somebody should've snapped his neck and threw is body in the ocean already.

I have visited this Thread many times, and I don't recall anyone mentioning the Films by Studio Ghibli. Does anyone else here watch them?

I'm pretty sure they have been mentioned numerous times in this thread.

I posted From Up On Poppy Hill a few hundred pages back.

Well I guess that answers my question.

Does anyone have a favorite? Hell, there's still a lot I have not seen.

My favorite anime by Miyazaki is Nausicaa, but I guess you can't really count that as a Studio Ghibli work.

I guess it'd have to be Porco Rosso.

I'm anxious to watch Ponyo (崖の上のポニョ). I have never seen it ("Completely"), but my god. Everything I have seen in that film (through trailers, etc.) looks beautiful (color, animation, etc.).

I like Studio Ghibli's art and animation, but the story and characters in most of their movies are meh.

If you like Ghibli, you may like "Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror". It's a great movie (actually made me cry...) and has a very slight Ghibli-esque vibe. Also the animation is wonderful (it's actually cg)

I believe out of all the Ghibli Films, I have only seen four: Castle In The Sky (though I don't remember much, because I only watched it once), Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle.
