It's not one of my favorite FFs but I still liked 8. Mainly how strongly the theme focused on love. Love is a great theme. Time too.

The drop in quality with the writing alone is really striking when you've JUST PLAYED FF9 and heading into 8.

Draw and the junctioning mechanics in general are what stop me every time I've tried to give FF8 a chance. @___@ Well that and I've always kind of been hesitant since I've really been hoping that the Squall and Rinoa relationship being a focal point in the story didn't feel... forced I guess? I dunno. I'm really picky on romance plots.
