I personally dislike it. I played practically every great RPG that there ever was made (except Fallout 1, but that will soon be corrected) - but not any of the Final Fantasies - for one reason that its a 'wired' anime.

I mean i like 'wired' things actually - Shadowman, Planescape Torment, Sacrifice, etc... But i view anime often as naive and foolish, and those are the things i just outright hate in person. Not to mention absolutely ridicules look of some characters that completely put me off - females look like they are 10 years old with Pamela Anderson 'meshes' + the BIG eyes - i would have no problem if they have meshes of Pamela Anderson but dose`t look like they are ten. Its giving me impression that all of the anime makes are pedophiles. And males look like they are all transexuals, while the older guys are all copy of that 'master' guy from Karate Kid or Kill Bill.

I think the only character i actually ever liked with "anime" style was Dante from Devil May Cry, and even that is pushing it.

Seriously what anime have you been watching? Obviously not enough variety that's for sure. They are not all the same as you claim. Different studios and directors have different styles and also it depends on the genre too. A lot of people claim to know anime around here by watching Harem or even hentai. And that represents a small part of the whole medium.
It's the same as me saying I hate all western animation because they' all look identical and are for kids.

I started where andarthiel did: Teknoman. I also dabbled in Sailor moon back in the day early on saturday mornings. Eventually, I started buying the DVDs online for .hack//sign's first season, Fushigi Yuugi, and a bunch of others. I also saw some really really weird ones like Ebichu. Don't say I didn't warn you.

And then there was NGE. As much as I'd like to go on about that, it may take up too much space.

I've seen some of the adult swim ones in their early days. Other than that, I haven't really touched anime. That's mostly due to the fact that I don't watch TV anymore outside of family get togethers and that sort of thing. I'll either rent a dvd or the like if I want to get some cinema in my system.

Teklnoma, The Most epic 90s intro ever. It beats Sailor Moon with it's lengthy tranformation scene:P

I love anime just the variety and fun of the shows i think it has something for everyone. My first encounter with it was in 1991 so when i was 7 i was being babysat by an older cousin who let me stay up to watch Akira on late night channel 4 it was in Japanese with subtitles and it really blew my mind. I remember bragging to friends that i saw these Japanese violent cartoons, Cartoons not for kids who knew? lol. And after that i hounded my cousin to borrow video tapes as i got older eventually he just gave me all of them when i was like 10 because he got bored of it and i got into stuff like Dominion Tank Police and Cyber City plus i had a huge pile of Manga Mania magazines he didn't want where i read the Akria manga and Dirty Pair which became a favorite of mine along with Bubblegum Crisis.

I think later i came to prefer the deep storylines to the violence so more modern stuff i like Serial Experiments Lain,Ergo Proxy,FLCL,Eureka Seven,Gantz,Eden Of The East,Rozen Maiden etc are more storyline based than about blood and guts. That violent stuff was cool when i was 10 though lol.

And for the sake of it a piece of anime nostalgia. I always remember this scene for several reasons. Just love this anime.

I love manga (and anime) , right now, I'm reading Fairy Tail. Thinking about starting One Piece too

It took a lot of inspiration from One Piece, so you'll definitely like it.  Also, Fairy Tail has been getting much worse recently so it would be good to try something new. Preferably go for the manga version.

Don't be too overwhelmed with the massive length of OP. Once you get into it it doesn't feel drawn out at all and it pretty much keeps getting better and feels well-thought-out unlike for example Bleach or Naruto .

Berserk

How come only the manga? Did you dislike the anime? IIRC it wasn't all that different from the manga, besides a little more humor with the Coborlwitz family secret technique silliness.

I used to watch anime when I was a kid - we were pickingup italin channels on our TV and those were full of anime. All dubbed (and back then the italians did excellent dubbing). Learned italian that way.

Some of the shows I watched then where Voltron, Daitarn IIIU, Transformers, Robotech, Saint Seiya, Lupen III and a few who's italina names are completley different than the original ones. I used to watch it with my sisters...

I even made a list of it as I was looking on You Tube for the old openings...Damn, the italians had some catch openings. I cna stil lrecall them today!  .ahh..memories...

Cavaglieri dello zodiaco
Candy
Memole, dolce Memole
Bus Bus
Lamu, Ragazza del spazio
Gigi la trottola
L'uomo tigre
Daitarn 3
Mila e Shiro, due cuori nella pallavolo
L'incantevole Creamy (parimpapum)
Nana supergirl
Lupen
C'era una vola Pollon
Fantaman
Captain Gorrila
Centurions
Ghostbusters
Navigatori del tempo
Saber Rider
Anna dai capelli rossi
Yuni, peperina inventatutto
Poliana
Magica Emi
Occhi di gatto
Jem
Vola mio mini poni
Hilary
Sandy dai mille colori
Viaggiamo con Benjamin
Transformers

then there was a long pause, as I switched to german TV and later Catroon Netwoork (learning German and Engligh in the proccess). And for a long time nothing.then I bumped into Cowboy Beebop and Vision of Escaflowne on MTV one night. I was re-hooked instantly.

Noir was good. For some reason I frequently don't like how anime's end, but I loved the ending of Noir.

Haven't watched the anime in a long time, but they leave out a lot of the gore and nasty themes that I feel define Berserk. Also, I don't like that it ends all of a sudden after the Golden Age arc, even if that was the better part of the series.

Kentaro Miura's artwork gets so amazing after the first few volumes that it's something I never would want to miss out on.

Can someone reccommend an anime similar to the likes of Code Geass and Eureka 7? I heard Neon Genesis might be good but I don't know...

If you like mech anime, Eva is good.  I'm just not that into myself.

If you haven't watche any Gundam, it sounds like you'd like the political aspect.  I also recommend Zoids Chaotic Century/Guardian Force, Guardian Force is just the name of the second half of Chaotic Century.

Meh, I could never get into Gundam when I was a kid and I loved Zoids as a kid I could always watch that again. You know any good Fantasy/Military anime?

I've seen enough - Pokemon (allmost all of the parts - movie i think only second one thoughl), Sailormoon(was it called like that? Girls in uniforms fighting 'evil'), then some sport anime forget the name now. I have made sure i know what i am dealing with before making my judgement. I am not saying none of the anime movies, serials, games, etc.. would`t be to my liking, but so far i have`t seen any and now i am not even looking for it.

I guess that might also fit well but then I'd suggest him to check out the remake, FMA: Brotherhood, instead since it is more true to the manga version and just has better quality all around.

Gantz is seinen, and it's a juvenile pile of vomit that could never even approach One Piece or even Dragon Ball's more resonant moments. It's just that Gantz has nudity, sexuality, gorey violence, and aims it's attitude at older teenagers.

No. :D

You seemingly don't get the "nightmarish desperation feel" behind it - it can be "bad" for the undetailed drawings-quality, and it didn't have an adventure-like plot, but it was really a piece of dark (avant-black metal-like) art, in my honest opinion. The psychological impact was there, and far more than a craving for blood or boobies. The characters were very weird, but in a horrifyingly believable way. They seemed as people we see in nightmares - simple yet with an one-dimensional over the top intensity to them... And the plot as a whole seemed as a nightmare.

It's most probably an aesthetic and psychological question - most people don't want to go into aesthetic themes that are deeply distorting, just like the disturbing places of the mind, and the relevant set of ideas, with unhumane intensity, but I find it fascinating, certainly, and nightmarish, in an impactful dream-like way. I could have been with some atypical mind-set at the time I watched it, but that doesn't lessen it's value for me.

The series is not for everyone, that's true enough.

But thank you for the comment! I was really just as biased and unknowledgeful as every other person about Dragon Ball, and changed my mind about the series in one go. But I must say I didn't really like the direction that it took shortly after the Pilaf-arc. I've reached the point where they've dealt with Blue - and though it seemed to get a lot better after White, I think I'm not wrong to assume it will change back for the more battle-oriented direction...

I got drawn into anime with some of the shows that were brought over to North America, chopped up and re-written for Saturday morning. Robotech, G-Force/Battle of the Planets and Astroboy were some favourites.

I also grew up with being able to rent some of the Force Five anime shows on VHS, so I got to see giant robot shows like Starvengers, Danguard Ace and Grandizer. Mecha anime is still my favourite today.

Of course, I watch some of the shows now and they're pretty dated, and some of the original programs weren't very good to begin with, like Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospeada. Heck, the original Gatchaman wasn't even that good.

But now I really want to watch those old giant robot shows again, like Getter Robo and UFO Robot Grendizer. I think I'd still like them.
