Anyway. Finished PMMM. Now I have three movies. Enjoyed the show pretty much when it picked up, which was early on thankfully, unlike Freezing which took forever to get interesting. 

 

PMMM had a good plot and good characters, but the art style doesn't do it for me. Regardless, it was something... different.

Haven't heard anything about Shimoseka but when I read the premise it honestly sounded godawful, and now I can say it looks godawful too.

 

It looks and sounds dumb but the good kinda dumb. There is a fine line between good dumb and bad dumb though.

True, and it wouldn't be the first time I've made a snap judgment about a show that ended up being wrong due to this...

At least for me, I can appreciate pervy in a show, but not a show whose whole purpose is to be pervy. Generally goes along with my dislike of harems, etc

So I don't think I will be wrong about this, for me.

 

Better to assume it's **** and be wrong than the other way round.

The Lotus is an important symbol in Buddhism, and Netero's powers are obviously based around his faith, literally and thematically. His main power is based on the bodhisattva Guanyin, who is described in Ch. 25 of one of the most influential sutras in Mahayana Buddhism, the Lotus sutra. So sure, you could say Togashi is "copying" something (to serve a purpose, as with other instances of such), but the thing he's copying is not so much your go-to show for spamming that "my animu is better than yours" trash... and you should probably reconsider before calling out someone else's lack of knowledge here.

Hey has anyone here watched Hourou Musuko? I came across it at random on kiss anime and it sounds kinda interesting.

 

The story depicts a young boy named Shuuichi Nitori who wants to be a girl, and his friend Yoshino Takatsuki, a girl who wants to be a boy. The series deals with issues such as transsexuality, gender identity, and the beginning of puberty.

 

Pretty risky topic to take on.

Risky is the right word for it. Got curious myself and looked up up some reviews. Mostly positive, that I found. Nihon Reviews speaks highly of it:

 

 

 

What really drives the story, however, is the delightful cast. The show completely throws out anime stereotypes for realistic personalities, disregarding perhaps a shade too much maturity. Some characters are spiteful, some are perceptive, and others are completely eccentric. What binds this diverse group is the combination of a believable clash of personalities and the unique way each character adjusts to the same problems.

As such, the story Hourou Musuko weaves is neither an impassioned call to awareness nor a trivialization of the transgender issue. It’s not viciously decrying the stigma of cross-dressing or depicting it as merely a passing phase. All it presents are the lives of a group of middle school students. There are no judgments to be made on them save two: their struggles with transgender identity, be it their own or another’s, define who they are, and despite that, in the end they are just like other teenagers, experiencing the same problems, hopes, and fears of growing up.
