If anything got old in Berserk it was that lmao

I do like Berserk but I do feel sometimes Miura repeats the samethings because he has no idea what to do. The thing with Casca is a perfect example that not only got old, it just makes a scene worse for me. It's like Bluebeard killing a kid in Zero for the 5000th time. Big nasty events lose their impact the more they are overused.

I just think he repeats him to 'emphasize' x, y or z with how f*cked his world is.

There's other pretty gruesome sh*t too.

Like that torture room.

Oh god even that made me cringe.

But yeah.

Rape is really controversial and for what Miura does I think he does better than most.

Like the Eclipse and the aftermath was some 10/10  stuff.

But then he does exactly what you've said.

And we're all like "really? Again?"

Poor Caska, she's been through enough.

And that's not even me joking xD

Can't find the link anywhere. PM it to me please.

And I swear every time someone calls SnO terribad without watching it or reading the manga.
*snip*
I just wish a Legion of Ikaros Melans would come after them.

Maybe if you pray to Godoka she'll come in and save you by dismantling them.

I'm not going to say it's awful since I haven't seen it but I have nothing to leave me with any other impression. It certainly sets off a number of red flags for me

For one it's a harem. Two the character designs are... Questionable and look like they're meant to be aimed at horny teens (no offense) and three I can't say I've heard anything about it that leads me to believe this has a worthwhile story. I've seen you post quite a bit about it but nothing specifically that I find likeable.

Does this story have any meaningful and well executed themes? If so what are they and how are they well handled? Are the characters actually good at all? And I mean from a writing standpoint and not a "Ikaros is such a badass because she can blow up buildings and impale people" standpoint.

I think Impulse should watch Hunter x Hunter then bend the knee and swear fealty to the One True King of Westeros, Meruem Feelister.

ETA:

Well yeah.

What Isi said.

Being a harem with OP girls and crap like that is an insta "no no" for me. By default these shows tend to be terribad unless they know its a harem and have fun with the idea.

Which I assume is what MM is.

Or do something special with it and incorporate characters with depth and corresponding themes.

Like Monogatari.

And nothing you've said about it has really made me think otherwise.

Everything I've seen including clips makes it look like dumb fun but nothing outta this world.

Plus you ain't on that Geth/Bro/Isi/House/etc... level where I can take your word for it.

So I just pull ya leg.

Fun fact!

Before I got to know Isi I used to think Berserk was some dudebro manga with demons, rape and badass stuff without the depth and complexity I came to know after I begun reading it a few months later.

The whole mental Caska thing is just boring now. It should have been healed chapters ago. Like I understand why it happen, it makes sense, but taking this long to heal something that is boring is just blah. Like I read it all in one go but apparently Guts and co have been in the sea for years now? that's just unacceptable for me.

I blame Togashi.

Well seriously...

It'll happen when it happens. Berserk has apparently always been like this. I'd rather an arc done the way Miura planned it than an arc rushed.

Yeah it's a pain in the dick.

But at least he gets them out with beautiful art every release that gets better and better as it goes along.

ETA:

Also it's f*cking god damned heartbreaking.

Jesus Christ man.

@Rex

Wasn't huge on Jotaro myself either. He grows on you a bit but never hits those same heights as the last JoJo. Wasn't huge on the whole B**** thing either.

The 3rd OP is decent but agreed not as good as 2. 4 is *really* good IMO though.

Not entirely sure about the stands tbh.. It sort of explains it early on then I think you're kind of just suppose to "go with it" and not question it

Well, the Ikaros Melan... yeah, even I have to admit she's a stripped down version of Ikaros.

Ikaros falls from the sky and imprints with Tomoki, thus he becomes her master. (She is an Angeloid). However, Tomoki is EXTREMELY pervertive, but I didn't care much for him tbh. You, knowing you, wouldn't like Tomoki nor you would be able to stand him. Even I don't like him much. Sure, he has his moments which made me laugh but most of the time he's trying to find a way to get to the girls. Of course, he cooks up crazy schemes like transforming into a girl, for example, which helps smooths it out. Then... well... Sohara would punish him.

There is plenty of fanservice. However, it didn't bother me. Somehow, it didn't screw up the plot. Hell, it sometimes is part of it.

Ikaros does have some development. She starts off as an emotionless, pet class Angeloid. Then it gets revealed that she is actually a mighty strategic battle class. She does develop emotions slowly through out the series and even falls in love with Tomoki. She learns Human behavior, adopts a watermelon, so on and so forth. Also, you end up learning some more about her. Why she was afraid of revealing what she truly was to Tomoki for a time, her past. She also isn't entirely fond of her past: The destruction of the tower of babel.

Then there is the serious part of Sora No Otoshimono: The Synapse. Because SnO is a crazy show and an ecchi doesn't mean it lacks it's dark moments. The God of Synapse, Minos wants Ikaros back and will resort to doing anything to get the Uranus Queen back. However, this goes far more in depth in the manga. He also suffers from being the only Angel (Besides another) being awake and thus it has taken it's toll on his sanity. Again, this is more explained in the manga. Eternal my master went from funny and lighthearted to dark REALLY fast. The Synapse is also a new world and Sugata holds a very firm interest in it. There's also certain connections between the Synapse and the Human race, something I won't spoil. (The Synapse made me very curious. I was eager to learn more about it when I heard of it from Ikaros).

It's a fun show to watch mostly. And it does have it's clever moments.

The characters are memorable and different from each other. While Tomoki may annoy you, the others (Besides Sohara) shouldn't and you may even like them. The Angeloids are different from each other, both design, personality and emotions. (Even I have to admit though... Astarea's boobs were kinda too big. Bigger than Ikaros's... too much for my tastes). You'll find Nymph go from sour to sweet and lovable.

Now, for the last part. Why is Ikaros a badass? She has unflinching loyalty to her master, Tomoki. Even though she has such a fragile heart when he's concerned, she would do anything to protect him. She even took a hit from an Apollon in the stomach and survived it, all to defend Tomoki and the other Angeloids. (Manga). She also has demonstrated resolve. She would get back up to her feet and keep going, to protect her friends when needed. Her, the other Angeloids, Tomoki and the rest of the cast have survived the wrath of the Synapse several times. There are several qualities about her that make her badass.

I think it has a good, while generic story, that is well executed and not overly complicated but interesting. But what matters more is the characters and the crude Humor it brought forth. I couldn't help but smile or laugh on many occasions.  (I'm someone who loves crude Humor so... yeah).

Sounds pretty average stuff from all that.

Or at least.

It wouldn't be something I'd watch unless I were down in the dumps or whatever.

But I appreciate the effort.

Anyway.

You really need to watch HxH and #bendtheknee.

Heh. The show does know it's a harem and has fun with it.

It isn't like Freezing... which tried to be and not be at the same time.

And HxH is on netflix. Perhaps when I can get around to it I will continue to watch it.

I appreciate the effort though I think you're sort of missing what I'm trying to get at to some degree. Part of it is what we look for in a story differs a fair bit. I'm not entirely convinced you know what pulls me in personally in a story.

Sim, Chewin, Ani, House and a few others *really* know how to pull my interest in without actually having to talk much about the storys details. When you talk about a story and the characters you tend to focus on very different things then I would. This isn't a bad thing really, it just shows a vast difference in taste.

I'm still not entirely sure what would make it well executed or well written from what you told me. Sure some of the character qualities are admirable and could potentially be interesting but there has to be more.. Hmm it's a hard thing for me to explain properly.

What bothers me about harems is they tend to be rather contrived and they tend to be *especially* prone to falling under bad anime tropes for both the story and characters.

I will say that well fan service is typically pretty trashy it can be used effectively (example: Kill LA Kill) and not take away from the experience and in fact add to it if handled well. Typically for this to happen the story has to be very self aware and willing to make fun of its own tropes.

Sim and I share the same opinion on Jotaro. He's a good character but a very poor lead. It also does not help that Jotaro comes after Joseph who was not only an amazing character,. but a fantastic lead.

Well thank you for the honesty. I like it when we can hold a... more normal conversation like this.

But ultimately, you are right. Our tastes are different. With the help of peeps (Like yourself) I've been able to expand them some. And what I look for may be or is different from what you look for.

Honestly, SnO was the first Harem I've ever seen. So even I don't know all of the bad anime tropes like you may when it comes to harem.
