The main and most painful problem I've with Titan is how the drama and the hysterics are depicted. In the manga, I guess you can read a more crazy feel to it, but in the anime it's just stupid. People don't behave like that in a crisis situation, except the (somewhat) psychologically ill. If one would have talked with war veterans and seen footage of, for example WW2 (especially of war camps, "evil ones" and pastime), then one'd know people are even biologically wired to act more acceptingly or smartly. The human race in the anime would die off quick in a logical world.

What's worse, the anime depicts nonsense and stupidity as normal and "human" and prompts the viewer to relate to that kind of drama.

+ 'tis a tad boring in that it doesn't have much to say except action and straightforward descriptive stuff that ethics seems to be reduced to (humans took back an area - hurray... titans got an area, booh! a person dies, sob... a titan dies, teeth-grinding justice and vengence!).

Sorry... :/

Actually, scrap all that.

(was based on my experience up until ep 14)

In the end it can come down to me disliking the music. Honestly I feel it's really unoriginal and boring... + the way stuff is shown. The whooshing sound effects and dodgy over-the-top changing of camera angles seems to try make *me* a hysteric. Even tho, with the characters themselves the hysterics' thing can be forgiven - it could be like a depiction of middle ages or something. Don't know, maybe people really were more like hysterics prior to so-called enlightment eras.

And the content of the show really picks up with ep 14, it does have something to say, now and then...

MILDISH SPOILERS FOR ATTACK ON TITAN ANIME NOTHING MAJOR BUT STILL FOR THOSE WHO DON"T LIKE SPOILERS

Actually I figured the hysterics come from centuries of being at complete "peace" within the walls against the titans. Their entire lives they fully believed in the impenetrable walls to keep them safe.

Then one day, it turns out the titans could have busted in all along. They lose TWENTY PERCENT of their population in a PURPOSEFUL culling to preserve food supplies.

Honestly I feel the only reason more people aren't panicking sooner is because their are still a few more walls to hide behind. That will change soon I bet.

The problem I have, there's no people struck silent. That's the most common reaction. Most people will grow rather numb in such conditions. But in the show emotions are going haywire.

And there was not much variety in personalities (until ep 14, somewhat). No contemplative or serious types still.

Actually if you hit episode 14 you should have seen some people struck silent previously. Although I will concede it often goes back to screaming after being struck silent.

Er, and could you calrify the contemplative a serious types? I could name a few.

I watched a random episode of 'Naruto' and it seems interesting. I know there is lots of its bashing around. So can anyone mention some of its best episodes to watch (numbers of episodes only)?

Essentially avoid the filler. That pairs the anime itself down PRETTY heavily. The story arcs themselves are not too bad when they don't get dragged on DBZ style.

Around ep 50 or so there's the Gaara vs Lee fight. It's great. Nothing else in that anime nears it.

Hmm... As to contemplative - take Hei from Darker Than Black. Take Vincent from Ergo Proxy. Take any anime that has at least a character going all poetic to different situations.

Other examples include Shinji (EVA), Naota (FLCL), Tomoya (Clannad), even most fearsome crazy badasses like Revy (Black Lagoon) often have a tendency to hold contemplative moments (mostly tucked away tho possibly seen as underlying to all actions). Not to mention arch-nemeses, and evil-doers. Those are oft contemplative or angsty serious. In anime.

Well, Annie does seem to be more of a nihilist, but honestly she seems just pissed off and irritated mostly. That's the nearest I can think of, thinking of SnK...

I highly recommend the show if you haven't seen it. It's brutal.

Just watch the first 80 episodes, then stop there.

That video's nuts, but in a good way :P I think PinkFoxx tried to play a game once based off that, but it kept freezing. Loving those hairstyles, and I'm pretty sure that was fluttershy in the back.
Psychopathic talking teddy bears. Yep.

So I just finished Sword art online. My expectations were low but now its one of my favorites. Don't know why I didn't watch it sooner. These three were my favorites for sure plus Agil.

Yep, two of my favorites are the two main characters. Real original right? :P Also now I know what this is from!

I saved SAO for Bluray. So yeah, my expectations were pretty damm high.

How is Suguha not one of your favorite characters? She's by far the best imouto ever with that Kirino/Azu-nyan voice.

[spoilers regarding Titan]

Watched episode 17 of SnK. Well, I'm a bit interested whether Annie is part of a group or solo. I'm betting a group is in play (tho her motives are somewhat private, someone either has leverage on her or she acts in self-interest and wants a Titan body, which can thus be a reason to follow suit... she could easily be in agreement ideologically too though).

As to the group itself - it's prolly either the rebels or some royality-influenced movement that has money as the main motivator. Or some ideological bull how, for the rebellious it would sound like "we are our own greatest enemies, now we are united at least" or for the royalty "the world order where peasants are peasants should be retained". Yet probably both monetary and ideological values are in play. I hope it's something more original though and that Titan'd not fail to surprise.

Oh, and by the way, I'm really enjoying the show now that it's switched solely to the one and only place where's there some smart left - the fellows with the wings on their backs. (what was the name again...?)

Levi and the most arian blond main commander guy seem to be great characters by my standards (except the arian-german/japanese duo thing they got going on, that's quite stupid). Levi moreso tho!

I think you'll be satisfied as far as I can tell with the spoilers I couldn't evade thus far. ;)

Oh yay!

***
Now I'm midway episode 19. I previously thought this was the only professional squad left. I was now a bit disappointed with them by the scene where Eren half-way turned during lunch-time. Too damn much screaming for a normal squad. I don't particularly like the characters besides Levi and main man blonde and the scientist girl and the one who imitates Levi... (+ potato girl!).

Eren though... He's probably my most hated protagonist of all anime!

After-ep-21-edit: Ok, Eren's beginning to become more likeable. As is the series. In this corps' I actually have characters to like or relate to. And to feel for ones lost in battle.

I like Suguha but she always rubbed me wrong a little because I didn't want her coming between Asuna and Kirito.
