Its score could have been more, if the pictorial design of characters was better and dat cerberus agent could make more sense.

However, one friend recently introduced me to Lovely Complex. I've fallen in love with it, wow. Looks like I'll be getting into this after all.

I used to think I hated anime and manga, but most of my friends liked it. So I tried to force myself to try some of the ones they liked. Never worked, still hated it.

My biggest gripe (or pet hate for you Scots) about most shoujo anime is the obligatory super deformed art style.
I love anime like Lovely Complex, Ouran High School Host Club, and Skip Beat, but I would enjoy them much more without the super deformed parts.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of people say that. I don't mind it that much, personally, though it could be a bit silly and overdone at times. I love the art style most of the time in Lovely Complex; Risa is very pretty, plus a lot of it fits well enough for the scene. But for the most part I agree.bmwcrazy wrote...

Which is why the stark contrast between Gunbuster and Diebuster was so horrifying to me.

Whatever you say.

In the 1999 rendition (would it have continued), the scene would actually be dark tho.
Though it has good adventure vibes to it, the 2011 version is pretty bad in terms of "child-friendly". Why in hell's name would you try to make such a show as Hunter x Hunter child-friendly?? It's just a stupid idea, that's all. Contradicts the very nature of the series...
An example for all ye unknowing: In 1999 a ninja tortures a kid so all grasp for air and despair (including the viewer), in 2011 they're having colorful and jolly fun fighting to the death (tho characters watching the fight will "aah, ooh" now and again at the apparent "torture" that's taking place - which seems as if tickling or play-time). In 1999 an assassin kid takes out a heart of an opponent and squeezes it to explode. In 2011 a bag will suddenly appear in his hand and he'll explain there's a heart in it. Then he recycles the heart. Why else would you need a bag for it and acquired the skills to neatly pack stuff in an instant?
Not to mention the colors, the art style and the music.

And like I have said in the past, this art style fits Togashi's style better.
Sometimes eroeru, I think you just need to read the mood better. Or better yet read the manga and compare the show with the original source material.
Don't forget this is a series where the characters can have a fun time learning all about the art of antiquing of all things, and then the next moment someone will die in an awful way.
