Gangsta episode 5 is likely the best one so far. Some additional background information about the characters and more info about the world they live in. Both are very important for the show to keep developing and has so far been sent out in right size for the viewer to digest. Really liking how involved the many factions in the show are in each others affairs.

J Stars Victory Vs+

PS4 Review

This is a fun game. Though it's different than most fighters I've played but it's certainly unique. I can't help but feel like that's where alot of the negative reviews came from. It's certainly an unorthodox game style.

J Stars Victory VS is the 45th Anniversary Celebration Fanservice pakcage of Weekly Shounen Jump.

Utilizing it's most famous IPs (Dragonball, One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, Jojo, HxH, etc) in a big dumb fighter that, while a little finicky to get over it's learning curve is pretty great.

The gameplay is on a 3D map you can freely run around in beating the **** out of your opponent in kinda 3v3 fights. (You pick a 2 characters to fight and 1 for support. Kagura and Sadaharu being support only  )

This game uses 3 buttons for attacks Light, Heavy, and Specials (one for pressing the button, the other while pressing when holding up on the analog stick), with variations (Since you can use more specials by pressing one of those buttons mentioned while blocking such as Jonathon attacking with the Luck and Pluck sword)

And I'll go into the characters I did end up using alot.

Gintoki Sakata (Gintama)

Gintoki is from a largely gag series, and his moves reflect that. As he'll throw exploding Justaways, Spray enemies with soy sauce, pull his scooter out of nowhere, charge with Seiyas animation, and of course throw out a Kamehameha much to Shinpachi's surprise.

Despite not being as good as a few other characters I do find myself using Gintoki alot. Since I like the character and series alot.

Jonathon Joestar (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 1: The Phantom Blood)

Jonathon might actually be one of the best characters in the game. He hits hard, fast, and you can combo into Sunlight Yellow Overdrive incredibly easy which can bring an enemy down to half health.

All the things you expect Jonathon to do he can. Zoom punches, using the Pluck Sword, posing with the taunt button. All that good stuff.

Joseph Joestar (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 2: Battle Tendancy)

I like Joseph as a character. But not in this game. He's too slow and too sluggish and he doesn't combo as easily.

He can use the Tommy gun tho.

Seiya (Saint Seiya/Knights of the Zodiac)

I've never seen Saint Seiya. But I played as Seiya in the story mode, and he's legit. He combos into his specials easily, he's fast and strong, and yeah. Legit.

Yusuke Urameshi (Yu Yu Hakusho)

Yusuke is great. Due to having a range option with Spirit Gun. So there you go.

Son Goku and Virginia (DragonBall Z)

The Dragonball characters leave alot to be desired. Ki attacks are spammy crap. And their combos are sluggish crap.

I can't speak for alot of the other characters. But I would recommend this game for you bigger weebs to try out yourself.

So if you see it cheap then go for it.

Despite again featuring a rather formulaic episode (one that I've been hoping we'd deviate from as soon as possible) I can't help but still appreciate for the qualities that the show managed to pull off with this particular segment.

 

While the episode again features a task wherein our crew has to track down another ability to user to stop him for using his powers, what I like about it is how it is more of a background issue that simply sets the stage for the episode's narrative, and putting more emphasis on characterization for the quartet as well some more humorous moments. Takajou and Yusarin have mostly existed for comedic purposes so far in the story, and while they did display 'key aesthetics' to define them as individuals in the story, it is certainly nice for them to as well get some development to further flesh them out as characters. The episode managed to nicely convey that despite Takajou being rather informal as a person, he still has his own convictions; both physically and mentally (training his body to effectively correlate with his powers and having plans for the future). Yusarin is certainly moe to the core, but her displaying what her relationship was with Misa and how it mattered to her is a welcome aspect, even if it isn't anything ordinary (nor do I see why it should be). Of course I personally prefer her 'counterpart' a lot more, since she offers an endless source of entertainment for me, and I enjoy every time she is on screen.

 

The episode managed to as well give further developments for our main duo, Yu and Nao, which also showcased a blossoming romance between the two of them, which I found was both sweet and engaging. The reason to that is quite simply really; the relationship between the two of them feels genuine and fresh. From my small experience of high school oriented romances (or just romances in general), the main aspect that tends to be the leading point in a romance is one partner seeing the other as a romantic interest, based generally on admiration for certain factors (looks, skill, etc). While I don't mean to state that such romances are bad or a weaker form of a relationship, it is more refreshing to witness a (possible) romance that mainly centers on focusing on the characters, instead of simply the "romantic elements". Charlotte's chemistry between the duo is solid, since it emphasizes as much on emotional aspects (the scene with the mp3--which some quality music to boot) as well as trivial ones (such as the scene in the store when they argued about likes and dislikes for food). It was also nice to see why Nao is obsessed with the camera and having a clear goal on what she wants to do, as opposed to Yu who still doesn't know what exactly he wants.

 

I would also like to point out that the humor in the show is very much to my liking! Featuring elements of sarcastic remarks as well as some solid mixtures of slapstick and simple facial expressions, makes the humor feel distinctive and varied from each scene. This episode I found myself chuckling almost all the way through, from Nao's remarks about the well to Misa's reaction when playing a game. 

 

I am quite pleased to see that a show can manage to be so nuanced in its story while simultaneously offering quirky moments to have me entertained. The show hasn't faltered at all since it started, but it definitely has to see a change in it story soon (next episode would be perfect) to offer some narrative views on the plethora of questions that the show has taken up. Time will tell.

So halfway through Soul Eater and it's doing a fine job so far. Even stepped up with the last 4-5 episodes being quite good with some genuinely good moments for both the characters in terms of development but also some solid action scenes. It's no ant arc action but I'd set myself up for constant disappointment if I compared anything to that.

Manga was definitely more amazing for me than the anime.. It's weird.. Not trying to sound like a complete nerd here but I never thought i'd prefer the manga 2x the anime. I typically have them close on enjoyment scales. The manga was definitely better setting wise. 

 

White Rabbit, final phase Justin Law, Noah.. Off the top of my head, that one attack that Law does, "Schmidt" I nearly shook IRL when I saw that.

 

Argh.. may need to revisit it someday.
