The first 2 movies remove a couple scenes from the series that I was rather disappointed with personally.

 

Ah, not so much worth it then. 

 

I had heard they removed stuff like Mami's back story (which seems dumb to me) but then others were saying it added stuff too. So if its just changes like that, as nice a fence as it is... probably not worth the trade off. Thanks for clearing that up.

 

Bit of a shame though. I finished the series up and thought I could treat myself to another three movies afterwards! 

 

Anyways, looks like I have Rebellion to watch then.

Well they are recap films so I never bothered with them.

 

Recap films seem pretty silly overall.

For what it's worth TRS is *really* amazing. The movies are sort of just for fans who have already seen the series to get them caught up. It fits quite well in movie format and some of the visuals are amazing but I still think the TV is superior because of the scenes that got removed. The removed scenes I can think of off the top of my head is Mamis backstory like you mentioned, Homura confronting Sayaka in the arcade and the intro scene where Madoka sees Homura fighting Wulpurgis at the very start of the series.

It got nominated for it, when the people giving out the awards said they didn't even watch it I pretty much lost all respect for them and that award ceremony

 

TRS is thought provoking, beautiful, it has an amazing soundtrack, it's unique and smart and it has everything I could possibly want from a film. It's easily one of the greatest films ever made imo.
