OK, so Rebellion...

I'm going to completely mess up trying to put this into words. But anyway.

 

Acid trip. If that's what you want to call parts of the series, Rebellion was those parts, except constantly, and turned up to 11. By the time the scene with BeBe's song came up, it felt like I'd missed maybe five episodes worth of context at the end of the season to explain what the heck was going on. And yet it all somehow manages to pull itself together, and aside from Kyubey's speech after he shows his true colours, it does it without lengthy exposition. Its left to the viewer to put most of what's going on together, which I appreciate a heck of a lot.

 

I had thought it was about to end as a pretty comfortable side story, removing some of the bitter sweetness surrounding Sayaka, Madoka, and probably even Homura too, come the ending of the series. But then it flips all that on its head one final time and ends somewhere completely different. Which I think it was pretty damn brave in doing so. It didn't take the easy way out, which I again appreciate immensely.

 

 All in all, it gave each of the characters some more love, clarified some points that the series left behind and had one heck of a fight scene between Mami and Homura. And all wrapped up in that amazing soundtrack and the simply stunning visuals of the witch world (Man, do I love that stuff!) And I think I even understood it all, despite it doing its level best to make me not. At least until the end credits scene, which I'm still not entirely sure how to interpret.

 

Still, loved it. I'll definitely give the whole series a run through again (maybe with subs this time?) I've pre-ordered the Rebellion Blu-ray already, as its too good not to do it all properly.   

 

I hope they do some more with Madoka one day too! Seeing this for the first time is probably as close as you'll get to being high as feck without the use of some top of the line narcotics.

Both are stellar. If you want a shorter one, go for Kill la Kill, as it's only 25 episodes, versus FMAB's 64.

That Homura's something else, dayum. There was a store not too far from my uni with some Madoka stuff, with not too far being an adjacent city. I hope they've still got some for when I next make the trip!
