Why do they use the Japanese attack names, anyway? Like the World King Attack that Goku is always using. Weird, man.

Well it did take them years for them to finally correctly pronounce Kaio-ken.

As for why they use them, all just a translation choice. And sometimes stuff such as Fist of the World King or World King Fist could sound very awkward when said really fast.

It's better when you have something like One Piece where most of the attack names are not Japanese or they are just easy to translate, Gomu Gomu no Storm to Gum Gum Storm, and the Japanese attacks are not that hard to pronounce.

Only some food names got through, it's just all of them are in Japanese like Ginyu.

Oh ya, Ookiku Furikabutte is a good one. I just couldn't take the monthly updates. Also in the manga without color, so many characters look alike so I couldn't tell what was going on.

I remember I saw one episode of the prince of tennis dub and they messed up translations to a point where it didn't make senes. They changed Ryoma's Twist Serve (yes, it's called Twist Serve in the Japanese version) to Kick Serve which makes 0 sense to me. Especially because later there's Shinji who also has a Kick Serve.

It's a bit overrated but not bad, the dub of it is making me like the series better.

Eh, they knock it down several notches for a bit. No other scene is as crazy as the first 8 minutes if that's what you're wondering.
If you think it's too much, you can always try with the OVA once all the characters have been introduced(wait for Nana), it's a lot more light-hearted and doesn't have any violent scenes except for a flashback.
Personally i like Elfen Lied, it's a decent series, there are many plot holes, some characters aren't much more than fodder(Yuka) and the ending is kinda crappy, but the (rest of the)characters are fairly engaging, the art style is likable(if a bit bland) and it has a lot of thematic depth.

Elfen Lied was boring and stupid.

Anyway so I watch the new episode of the new Hunter x Hunter anime and I saw this scene...

 

And now no one can ever make me believe the new show is more kid-friendly...

Let me rephrase that.
No other scene is as 'in your face' as the first 8 minutes. Theres no uber-massacre of the levels of the first 8 minutes again.

And yes, i had kinda forgotten about that scene, i haven't watched it in a while.
