I finished reading the first chapter of Attack on Titan - Before The Fall, and sadly i think it's awful. The story is inconsistent with the main series, generic artwork, bad pacing, forced plot developments, and wastes pages in regards to panel layout
That makes me ask, how's the SnK manga compared to the anime adaption?
The artwork is not as crisp or proportioned as the anime's, but i think it's better at depicting the dread of the titans, the ugliness of the deaths, and the characters's emotions. On the flipside the anime is superior in terms of it's depiction of the combat scenes.(since the introduction of the female titan Isayama has improved his artstyle, and skills.)
Another difference is that the author's placement of flashbacks can be a little confusing vs how the anime incorporated them, like Eren's flashback during his first transformation. Some scenes were altered in the anime like Annie laughing (unneeded), while the reveal of the *spoiler* in the wall was handled differently in the manga as it took place during the day iirc. Episode 24 is filler but i think it's needed as the manga doesn't go into detail about Eren's discovery of the female titan's identity before their confrontation. (I think it's excluded in the manga because it potentially reduces the shock value of the reveal.) The manga includes a side story that was excluded from the anime as it's prematurely spoillerific.
Overall i think they're equal, but i prefer the manga due to me reading it first, the artstyle (subjective), it being the source material, and it's further along than the anime.
