Thing is.
Yeah he's frustrating to watch.
But he's supposed to frustrate you.
Gon has always been selfish from early on.
See how he made Killua take that ball? Or when in Greed Island they call him out on it.
Gon never asked Killua "hey you want to take a card?" Nah he just thought of himself.
Gon never even asks about his feelings on anything.
He's a child! Like in a very literal way outside from what he looks like Togashi makes this painfully obvious by having Killua around as a contrast to his behaviour.
Like sure, find him annoying and all.
But don't deny how well Togashi wrote him. Because unlike other shounen protagonists, he's not the moral centre of the group, he's not shaped by those around him and he certainly isn't the paragon of all that is good for the plot.
One of the things I really enjoyed about Gon and Killua was how they sort of switched personalities along the road.
Its one of the reasons why I love the chairman arc so much.
That and the based granny bike.
